Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*Spelling focus: short “o” words
*”s” /z/plural sound
*Sight word focus
*blending sounds, rhyming words
*recognizing predicates in sentences! They identify the action part of
the sentence or what the subject is doing!
*character & setting – time and place
*visualizing – creating/picturing in our minds what that would look
like
What else: This week in writing we have been working on writing a
short 2-line poem about an animal. Some of us have worked hard to
make our poems rhyme! It’s been a good writing assignment for this
short week and our super hyper bodies!
Math
This week we started Unit 3 on Unknown Numbers in Addition and
Subtraction. (It’s a lot like beginning algebra!) Our learning targets have
included:
* relating partners and totals and finding an unknown partner
(4 + __ = 8)
*solving story problems with unknown partners
*solving equations with unknown partners.
We have used our visual math mountains to illustrate our stories and to
help us write equations with unknown partners. We have practiced
counting up both with Math Mountains and with equations with unknown
partners. Finally, we have established steps for solving a story problem or
number story!

Number Story Steps:
1. Read & circle numbers in the story.
2. Underline the word after “How many”. It is usually our label.
3. Ask: Will I add or subtract? Am I getting more or going to have less?
4. Write a math mountain and/or equation!
5. Solve
