Setting Up Skype for Business

1. Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to https://portal.office.com

2. Enter your email address and Windows password, and then click the “Sign in” button.

3. Your account is set up to use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). This helps protect you, and the Company, from
another person being able to log into your account. Because we use MFA at Brunswick, someone would have to
steal your password AND be in possession of your phone in order to log in as you. This approach greatly
increases the difficulty level of someone compromising your account, keeping Brunswick safer in the process.
To view learn more about MFA, click here.

4. Once you sign in, you will see a message saying “Your admin has required that you set up this account for
additional security verification”. Click the “Set it up now” button to continue.
5. A screen with several verification options will appear. At this time we suggest using the Authentication phone
option. This will set your default verification method for MFA.

**If you want to use the Office phone option, there is an additional update you must complete prior to the steps
below. Click here for these instructions.

a. Choose Authentication phone.

b. Verify that the correct country is selected from the drop-down list.
c. Enter a phone number in the box to the right of the country drop-down list. This can be your cell phone
or your work phone number.
d. Select “Send me a code by text message” to receive a verification code via text. To receive phone call
verification, select “Call me”.
e. Click the “Contact me” button.

Send me a code by text message

If you selected to receive your verification code via text message, you will see the screen below. Enter
the verification code into the box, and then click the “Verify” button. Please note that the verification
code will expire after 10 minutes.

Call me

If you opted to receive a phone call verification, the number you entered will receive a phone call.
Follow the prompts to continue.

6. The next screen displays an “app password”. Some of the Microsoft Office 365 applications cannot use a phone
for MFA. You will need to enter this password in order to use those applications. This is a password you should
keep! Click the copy icon to the right of the app password, and then paste it into whatever you use to securely
manage all of your passwords.

7. If you receive a prompt asking if it is okay for this webpage to access your Clipboard, click “Allow access”.

8. Once you have saved the app password in a safe location, click done. The Microsoft Portal website will open.
You may now close your browser window.
