Topics for group projects:

1. Trends in major economic indicators in India since 1991
2. Financial sector reforms in India since 1991
3. India and the world economy: where do we stand?
4. Measurement of poverty in India: methodology and challenges
5. Clean Development Mechanism and India
6. Harrod-Domar models: Implications for economic growth and relevance to
India
7. Development experience of Japanese economy
8. Eco-tourism in Maharashtra: Prospects and challenges
9. International treaties and protocols for protection of the environment
10. Growth experience of Scandinavian countries

General guidelines:

• The total of 20 marks is allotted for the group project.

• Only one topic from the list should be chosen by a group of 6 students.
Groups will be formed by me on the basis of roll numbers.
• Submit your chosen topic and names of group members to CR by Sept 20,
2010.
• Each group is required to submit a report of 25-30 pages and a presentation
of 15 minutes on the chosen topic.
• Each member in the group is expected to contribute to the presentation.
• Presented work will be evaluated on the basis of criteria, such as,
understanding and coverage of the topic, quality of output, analytical abilities
and presentation skills of the group members.
• Presentations will be scheduled in the last week of October or first week of
November (will be announced later).

2. Amartya Sen’s capabilities and entitlements approach
3. Schumpeter’s vision for innovation and economic growth
4. India’s performance on MDGs
5. Role of planning commission in India
6. IT sector and Economic transformation of Hyderabad/Bangalore
7. Golden Quadrilateral project: Impact of economic development
8. Any two well known MNCs in India: Contribution to our economic growth
9. Market based instruments for pollution control in developed countries
10. Review of a South Asian economy – Sri Lanka/Bangladesh

General guidelines:

• The total of 5 marks is allotted for the in-class group presentation.

• Only one topic from the list should be chosen by each group of 6 students
formed earlier for the group projects.
• The group is expected to make a presentation for 5 minutes during the
class. The dates for each presentation will be decided in class.
• Only one member in the group is expected to make the presentation.
• Presented work will be evaluated on the basis of the understanding and
coverage of the topic.
