Network architecture has to be designed for a greenhouse monitoring and control system.

The
system mainly regulates the watering and lighting of greenhouse to ensure optimal crop
(vegetable) production. The level of CO2, ambient light, soil moisture, soil temperature, air
temperature and humidity has to be measured to decide the optimal watering rate.
The layout of the greenhouse plant is as shown in Figure 1. The system has 100 columns
and 20 rows. The columns represent the pipes for the circulation of water. There is a
valve which can be opened and closed to control the flow of water to a column. A small
grid structure is shown at the intersection of row and column . The plants are arranged
in the smaller grid pattern at the intersection of row and columns( of smaller grid ) as
shown in Figure 1. The grid can occupy 8x8 (64 plants). Each row of the smaller grid
represents the pipe for watering the entire row. An “mote” device which will monitor the
parameters such as CO2, PH level, ambient, light, soil moisture, soil temperature, air
temperature and humidity as experienced in a grid (8x8) is available. The data has to be
transmitted to a central coordinator (base station) in the greenhouse. Once the central
coordinator receives the data, the central coordinator retrieves information about the
required watering and lighting of the grid. The central coordinator will inform each end
device about the desired parameters (maximum and minimum) parameters for a grid.
You can assume that each grid has a separate lighting arrangement which will be
controlled by the central coordinator. The end device at the grid needs to monitor the
parameters, transmit the parameters to central node and also control the watering of
each row of the grid. Based on the watering requirements provided by the central
coordinator, the end device will decide when and for how long the valves at each row of
the smaller grid has to be turned ON. The data will be transmitted by the end device to
the central node at the periodicity as configured by the central node. The central co-
ordinator should also be able to query the end device to collect information about the
parameters

1. Mention total number of nodes in the network
2. Identify all possible data patterns in the network
3. Design a MAC protocol for the same- All possible data traffic patterns (not only the periodic data
flow) should be accounted for while designing the same. Draw the MAC schedule for within cluster
and intercluster.
4. Draw the routing schedule for within cluster and intercluster. Design a routing protocol for the
same. All possible data traffic patterns should be accounted for while designing the same.
