Reflection

The purpose of this assignment is to prepare, teach, and demonstrate how group

collaboration within a career field works. The group recommendation report was great example

for providing practice for current and future opportunities in other classes and the workforce.

This project was designed to teach students how to research, design, and collaborate to complete

the assignment. It also provided the opportunity to research a problem that a person may face in

their particular career field. It was a great away to teach and provide context to problem solving

in a group setting and determining a solution that would best fit the problem. During this process

of creating the recommendation report in a group it taught me that a group report of any type

needs ample time to discuss and plan the project. This project is very applicable to a career in

engineering because engineering requires engineers to work on networks of teams to accomplish

the task that they are doing. It is important to know how to work with others in the professional

world. The SLO Project Planning was used to decide within the group about how to approach the

project and how the general layout or project. Through this process the group decided to break

the project into parts to distribute the work.

The audience for this project relied on the specific career field of engineering with

specificity toward the School of Engineering at the University of New Mexico. The project was

to create a recommendation report for a department at University of New Mexico specific to the

groups field of study. The SLO Project Analysis was used within the group the decide and clarify
throughout the report the audience of the report. The audience could be change to other

engineering departments at other universities. The audience affected the design of the

recommendation report by changing what information needed to be displayed and the solution to

the problem. For the recommendation report, it had many more changes that were tailored to the

audience. The audience played a major part in the decisions on the tone and information to add

and remove for the project. The big picture of application in other universities was taken into

consideration when writing the report.

Throughout the project the group used the SLO Production and Delivery to create the

outline of the document first, then the content of the report. The group worked to follow the

formatting to the report. The group decided that since the group members and the audience for

the report were engineers in the SOE at UNM, the report should be written in IEEE report

format. It was decided because it gave the group the ability to practice IEEE format for the future

projects. Graphs were also used in the project to provide the readers with graphics and statistics.

There were used as a visual representation of the data and trends that were seen in engineering.

This project provided a great opportunity to practice and improve on group collaboration

and a recommendation report. It is a skill that is very important to have. I am glad that I had the

opportunity to work and improve my skills in creating the recommendation report.
