ARCHITECTURAL IDENTITY
Vigyan Bhawan adorns a high qualityy
polished ‘Chaitya Arch’ (primary
element) clad in green granite forming
the main gateway of the building on an
otherwise plain but immense white
facade. Two traditional elements can be
seen on the façade at the roofline – Jalis
(secondary element) forming the railing

to give an Indian architectural identity to
the façade, the eastern and western
facades and the annexe gives the building
a typical post Corbusier look. But the

reasonably good quality, the building
gains a grandeur and yet stand quite
welcoming and soothing overall.

ENTRIES TO VIGYAN BHAWAN
The convention centre can be entered
from 5 different gates meant for entries
of different people and purpose and
uses. Office staff can enter from gate no.
1as it is places near to the administration
block and administration parking. Gate
no. 2 is used for visitors’ entry. Gate no. 3
is VIP entrance leading to the steps of
main lobby and entrance of the
conference hall. Gate no. 4 is VVIP entry
for persons like Prime Minister and
President of the nation. Gate no. 5 is
service entry and serves the purpose of
loading and unloading for kitchen etc.
CONVENTION CENTRE
Architect raja aederi has designed the
interior of the vigyan bhawan keeping in
mind the fact that it is India's first

premier conference facility. The interior

are done up with very soothing and soft

colors, such as sky blue, camel light green

etc. the flooring is of marble and granite
throughout the corridor and the main
hall are carpeted . The lounge , though
are well designed and well placed.
The main building , a three storey
structure has a plinth area of 17,22 sq.m.

INFERENCES

From the case study it was concluded that:

•The main circulation via the doubly loaded

corridor is very confusing for a visitor. In the
building of this nature the clarity of layout is
very important, since the user does not
come to here too often and thus he never
gets familiar with the layout.

•The corridor also gives no information of

the building spaces one does not know
whether he is walking to the narrow row of
offices or main hall lies across the wall.

•It could possibly have more pleasant to

integrate some open spaces to it. The main
hall has been treated as the central mass
with other hall and office placed around.
