(6) Objective ?

SWBAT: build the foundations of literacy through a variety of methods including drawing
and writing words. Students will follow and learn through repeat after me direction.
“Letter is A, sound is __.” etc.

(7) Materials needed to facilitate the lesson?

I will lead the class in an on carpet discussion. I present cards with pictures and letters,
students will read the letter, tell me the sound. I will then read a story about the letter
character and we will make connections within the group of students. Learning
Dynamics provides everything needed for this lesson. There is a lessons book,
organized by day. There are also giant letter cards with characters provided. When
doing letter work, I hold up the cards. We also could incorporate a Kagan structure,
called quiz-quiz-trade, to keep the kinder’s moving and help push the lesson farther
while they are engaged.

(8) Procedures? Learning dynamics provides all materials, which will be in a

convenient basket next to my chair. First, we go through the letter cards with letter
sounds. “Letter is __, sound is ___.” Once you’ve done this, you can show the cards in
reverse, so that they just identify the alphabet backwards.

After this is done, there is a story in the LD lesson book, just flip to which day we are on
and follow the books instruction.

End lesson with Kagan structure “Quiz-Quiz-Trade.” Go over structure procedure before
starting. “Everyone gets a card, and we will dance around the room until the music
stops. Once the music stops, you raise your hand and find a partner. Once you have
found your partner, you high five, and kneel down. Student with the longest hair goes
first. (Or however you want to change it up that day.) Student reads letter on other
students card, states letter sound and names the character. They then trade roles.
When finished, they will high five and say Thank you for sharing.” Students will then
stand shoulder to shoulder, and wait for the music to start again.”

(9) Assessment? ESGI testing would show me the results for how LD is performing. It
will also show me where students struggle, and what they have and haven't mastered
yet. I can then adjust my lesson plans, or learning centers to give extra assistance in
this area.
