CAUSES AND SOLUTIONS TO OVER-

POPULATION
After about two centuries, the world has seen an amazing climb in population. In
some countries like China and India, the number has exceeded at least 1 billion
people while others like Vietnam, Thailand, the figure has reached approximately
100 million.

Such a scenario has been explained by numerous contributors from subjective to

objective ones. It is argued that as a result of better living standards and the
advancement in technology and discovery of cures for childbirth diseases and
other ailments, people can live longer than ever, pervasively occupying the earth
within a short time. Besides, as the wars happen less, human enjoy more ever-
lasting peace, and at the same time, a corresponding decline in deaths. In some
less developed countries, the rationale is different. With the mindset prioritizing
males over females, a host of families, also, endeavor to give birth to a boy who
can inherit legacy and take charge over tedious agricultural work, despite having
already three or for daughters. Simultaneously, the dearth of safe contraceptive
provision in some remote areas is another contributor to making some people
continuously suffer unwanted pregnancy. Personally, there are quite a few people
who want to raise as many children as they can, believing that each child is a
wonderful god-given present, without knowing that there are, too, more
responsibilities accompanied.

Given such a gloomy picture that few land is left to accommodate the ever-
increasing population, efforts have been made by governments world-wide. In the
past, one of the most barbaric solutions to remove the fetus and baby used to be
done by some governments in the world, in a great attempt to reduce childbirth
rate to the lowest point, which, however, met vehement protests from
international community and was halted since then. In the modern life, there are
several stop-gap, but effective remedies suggested. In several nations where
penalties on having more children allowed have been implemented, a significant
reduction in birthrate is inevitable while others still stagnate in combating this
issue. Hence, it is high time that governmental family planning was sternly carried
out in countries where population witnessing a steep increase. Such punishments
as demotion, lofty financial payment and public work are encouraged. The
intensive promulgation of education programs, especially inculcating in each
couple the consequences of their crowded families like the lack of good schooling,
unemployment and crime, actually proves the most efficacious method, but
involves more concerted efforts among citizens and governments themselves.
