GMRVF collaborated with IBM to launch 16 IBM-GMR Kidsmart Centers or Early Learning Centers (ELC)
at GMR Energy project locations. These ELCs target children from Govt. Schools who have been deprived
of technology aided quality education. The target group of kids are in the age group of 3-9 years. Each
ELC has three corners -Technology corner, Craft corner and Reading corner-each one with specific
activities designed for each corner. They have further set up e-education centers in villages such as
warora which imparts basic computer skill education. In the year 2015-16, around 500 children enrolled
in these centres.
Balabadis have been established by GMRVF to assist the aganwadis to run smoothly. The target group is
basically children in the age group of 3-5. There are currently 12 Balabadis in existence. Balabadis help in
pre-school preparedness and help develop inherent capabilities of students through songs, dance and
allied fun activities. The goal is to stimulate their curiosity, guide them to explore, help them to acquire
skills and instill the joy of learning which would set the tone for the rest of their lives. Additional
initiatives such as regular PTA (Parent-Teacher meeting), birthdays and balabadi anniversary are
celebrated to make the centers a joyful space of learning.
GMRVF has endeavored to bring health and hygiene into the lives of communities that had no access to
health clinics. They have established health clinics in communities that have no access to similar facilities
due to unawareness or grave economic conditions. The 19 health centers established by GMRVF
currently serve around 55000 people every year.
Since awareness about health and allied hygiene is a rarity in Indian villages, GMRVF has initiated
programs to raise and create awareness about the subject of health and hygiene. GMRVF uses media
which communities easily relate to like street plays, Kalajatha, puppet shows, etc. to take various health
issues to the community. Involving children and youth in awareness programs like rallies, debates, etc. is
another strategy.
Realizing the poor sanitation facilities in rural areas, Foundation has constructed and managing 3 public
toilet complexes in Chhattisgarh and Holi-Bajoli. Apart from the construction of public toilets,
Foundation also focuses on renovation and construction of school toilets so as to reduce dropout rate
among girl students. Toilet complexes have been constructed in 14 Govt. schools in GMRVF project
locations and renovations have been conducted to several school toilets. 7 pre-fabricated toilets were
installed in 4 ZP High Schools at Warora. Further, Foundation supported about 750 families for the
construction of Individual Sanitary Lavatories.
