“An Inside Look at a Dyslexia Evaluation.” YouTube, explained by Mathew Cruger. November

17, 2017.

In this video, medical professional went over what a dyslexia evaluation looks like. He also

went over what made him believe that this student was dyslexic. He discussed patterns and thinks

to watch out for when testing a dyslexic student. There are five aspects to look at doing an

evaluation; oral language skills, reading, spelling, writing, and background knowledge. All five

parts help the doctor make his diagnoses. This source is reliable because it is an organization called

Understood. Understood is a resource for parents that have children with learning or awareness

issues. This video was also coming from Matthew M. Cruger, who is a licensed clinical phycologist

and is a senior director of the Learning and Development Center at the Child Mind Institute. I plan

on using this video to help me explain why it is important to incorporate social media into the

classroom. It will also show the issues that are can be fixed through this incorporation of social

media in classrooms.

Barden, Owen. “… IF we were cavemen we'd be fine': Facebook as a catalyst for critical literacy

learning by dyslexic sixth-form students". Academic Search Complete. Literacy. Nov

2012, vol.46 issue 3, p123-132.10p. doi:10.1111/j.1741-4369.2012.00662.x.

In this essay, the author shows how effective social media and learning with dyslexic

students can be. The author finds that it is a way for students to have a better and deeper

understanding of what is needed to be understood. The students that participated in this project,

who are dyslexic college students, were given access to a Facebook page. The Facebook page was

about research into dyslexia. The students were told to connect on this page and to work together

to understand the different forms of dyslexia. Students were to have conversations and do their

own research on dyslexia. The author of this essay is very reliable because it is a scholarly peer-

reviewed journal. The author also has three pages of references to back up this experiment and

conclusions that were made based off of the research. I intend to use this essay as my primary

source of evidence. This essay gives actual proof through an experiment of social media and

dyslexic children and how dyslexic children can benefit greatly from it, which is the primary

purpose of my essay.

Carr, Nicholas. Is Google Making Us Stupid? The Atlantic [Periodical]. July/August 2008.

In this article, the author discusses how Google can make us stupid. The author talks about

how Google has made everything a lot easier for us to do research and according to Carr it has

"taken over our minds." Carr believes that the more technology advances there are the worst it is

for us to memorize things and think on our own. The author is reliable because he is an author who

has written a couple of books on technology. He received the Pulitzer Prize and New York Times

Best Sellers based on his work. I plan on using this article to create an argumentable paragraph. I

plan on refuting his idea of why technology is dangerous for us.

Ventimiglia, Philip, and Pullman, George. From Written to Digital: The New Literacy. Educause

Review [Website]. Monday, March 7, 2016.

In this article, the author discusses the way technology has changed the way he read now.

According to the authors we no longer read long texts, and we don't try to understand the deeper

meaning of the text. Instead, we skim through the passages and try to make learning quicker and

more comfortable. The authors are reliable because Ventimiglia is a Chief Innovation Officer. His

role is to bring new ways of learning and teaching for students on campus at George state

university. Pullman also works at George state university. Pullman works in the English and

communication on campus. He educates students on reading and writing has changed. I plan on

using this article also to make some contentious points. Although they explain why technology is

dangerous for us, they also mention some critical aspects of why it is good for us.
