Title: Classroom Management Online Training

Module

Student Name: Eric Zachary

Advisor: Dr. Tourtellotte

Summary:
Research shows that one of the greatest causes of new teacher attrition in the educational field is
poor teacher self-efficacy due to poor classroom management ability. The goal of this project is to
increase teacher self-efficacy, and in turn attempt to lower the teacher attrition rate within the
Apple Valley Unified School District by providing beginning teachers with immediately
implementable classroom management tools and strategies.

It was determined that a self-paced asynchronous model would be the best method for
implementation. To accomplish this, four modules were created. The modules included an
introduction module followed by three longer training modules that covered: building positive
student relationships, developing effective rules and procedures, and reducing student disruption in
the classroom. The course was delivered to learners using the Coursites LMS.

Due to the asynchronous nature of the training, all evaluation and assessment in the course
required a method of self-grading and reporting. In an effort to move beyond a simple
behavioristic input output assessment method, the course employs the use of scenario-based
questioning that requires the learners to apply their newly learned skills.

To evaluate the project, a team of five experienced teachers were assembled to beta test the
training. The team evaluated the course for appropriate spelling and grammar, functional
navigation, audio, accessibility, and correct assessment content and feedback. Once modifications
were made, the course was assigned to five beginning teachers, four were in their first year of
teaching, and one was in her second year.

Participants completed pre and post training academic and self-efficacy assessments as well as a
post training survey. It was determined that the training made a positive statistical impact in all
areas. Additionally, the data showed that all participants deemed the training to be an effective
learning experience.
