Some students might not use adjectives and adverbs properly.

Some students might use more than one opener in one sentence.

Solutions:

Model and review the use of adjective and adverbs on the board

Ask them to use one opener from the lest each time.
Lesson Schedule

- Targeted teacher language: how can we make the sentences more interesting? What is the colour of
these mountains? What is the size of them? Are they small or big? Can we use another word that
is similar to big? (huge, enormous, giant) what the words (huge and red) are called? (adjective)
How did we use them? (describe the thing).

- Student language: adjective is used to describe something, openers are like: in the meanwhile,
nearby, under the clouds, beside the lake… the mountains are grey, dark, huge, rough,
enormous…

Engage (warm up, review prior knowledge): time:

- I will write the following sentence on the board “There are mountains.” I will ask the
students how can we make the sentences more interesting? What is the colour of these
mountains? What is the size of them? Are they small or big? Can we use another
word that is similar to big? (huge, enormous, giant)
- Then I will discuss the use of adjective by asking them what the words (huge and red)
are called? (adjective) How did we use them? (describe the thing). 10 min
- After that I will ask them to use the list of (openers) to add an opener to our sentence
to make it even better. “under the cloud, there are huge, red mountains.”
- Finally, I will tell them that today we are going to use the list of adjective and openers
to up-level (make it more interesting) our simple sentences.

Core (introduce and practice new concepts & procedures):

- I will give them the lists of the openers and adjectives. Then I will show them a
picture of a mountain. I will ask them to write one sentence to describe the setting
(mountain) using the lists openers/adjectives (in pairs on their white board).
- We will discuss their answers as a class and I will write their sentences on the board.
- We will underline the adjective and the openers they have used.
- Then I will ask them to choose any other element in the picture and write a simple 15 min
sentence about it (there is a tree) and then up-level it, using the provide lists.
- We will discuss their answers as class.
- Then I will tell them that now it is their turn to try it themselves in their books.

Close (wrap up, discussion, brief review activity or assessment):

- Then I will give each one of them the picture of the mountains.
- I will ask them to write one sentence to describe the setting and one sentence to
6 min
describe the character in their notebook.
- The high ability students are going to use adverbs and I will explain the simile to them
and see if they can use it too.
