Instructor Interview

I met with Margarita Lenk for Business Accounting. The meeting made me feel more

interested in the major. Dr. Lenk was very nice from the second I walked in and she did not only

talk about the major, but she also took me on a little walk to see the building. During the meeting

I also got to meet some students who are taking accounting and they talked about how much they

liked it. During the meeting Dr. Lenk mentioned how accounting has 2 sides to it, one side being

law, and the other side being managerial. She explained how people always like one side better

than the other one. Depending on the way you are, you will either like law more than managing

or the other way around. The degree for business accounting is around a total of 4 years, but

since I did not declare my first semester I would be behind a semester. To be accepted into the

college of business I need to be taking Calculus and Econ classes and be passing them with a B

or higher. After meeting with Dr. Lenk I know what classes I have to take and what I need to do

to be able to get into those classes. I feel like after this meeting and after talking to other people

I’m very interested in business accounting. I’m excited in learning what side of business I will

like more. I believe that I will like the managing side of accounting more than the law side.

Accounting has a lot of math and math has always been one of my favorite majors so I’m

looking forward to that, but I’m not looking forward to the science part because I don’t like

science. We also talked about the things that I can do to check out if accounting is what I like

more or if I end up liking another concentration in business. There’s an organization called Beta

Alpha PSI that is focused around accounting and financing. Dr. Lenk suggested I attend one of

their get together so I can see if accounting is really for me or I can go around and attend other
types of business majors to see which one interests me. I’m looking forward to being interested

in something and being able to declare my major.
