Digital Signal Processing – Homework (Deadline: 18.05.2017 – 16:30)

The percentage of this homework will be 15%. Visa will be 35%. Make solutions with your
handwritings. Add a cover that consists your name and number.
(At the end of your solutions, write the sentence below and sign it.)
“Bu çalışmanın tamamıyla kendi ürünüm olduğuna dair şerefim üzerine söz veriyorum.”

1. The impulse response of an LTI system is h(n)=3(n)-2(n-1)+(n-2)-2(n-3)+3(n-4)

a) Find the frequency response, magnitude and phase response of this system.
b) An input signal x(n) = sin(0.25πn) + 2cos(0.5πn) is applied to this system. Find the spectrum of
this signal via DTFT.
c) Calculate the output y(n) of this sytem and its spectrum Y(ejw).
d) Express the DTFTs of the signals below depending on X(ej):
x*(-n), x(n)-nx(n-2), x(2n), x(-n)*x(n-1)

2. When an input signal x[n]=u[n] is applied to a discrete-time LTI system, the output signal is observed
as y[n]=2(1/3)nu[n]. When a different input signal, x1[n]=(1/2)nu[n], is applied to this system, find the
output signal y1[n], and the impulse response of this system, h[n].

3. Frequency spectrum of a continuous-time Low Pass Filter is shown at the figure below. Impulse
response of this filter, hc(t), is sampled with Fs = 20 kHz and discrete-time hs(t) = hc(nT) = h(n) filter
is obtained.
a) Draw the frequency response of sampled filter, Hs(), and DTFT of h(n), H(ej). ( Ωs = 2πFs )
b) Increase the sampling rate of h(n) with L=2 to obtain hi(n). Draw Hi(ej) and Hi(ej T ’).
Hc()

 (rad/s)
-5000  5000 

4. A discrete-time signal x(n) = δ(n) + 2δ(n-1) + δ(n-2) is applied to an LTI system with impulse
response h(n) = 2δ(n) - δ(n-1) + 2δ(n-2).
a) Calculate the output of the system using linear convolution y(n) = x(n) * h(n)
b) Calculate the output as Y(ejω) = X(ejω) H(ejω). Then obtain DFT, Y(k) by sampling ω as ωk=
2πk/N.
c) Now assume xp(n) and hp(n) are periodic versions of x(n) and h(n) by 3 points. Calculate the
periodic convolution, vp(n), and circular convolution, v(n), of them. Is v(n) same as y(n) in (a) ?
d) Calculate 6 point circular convolution w(n), of x(n) and h(n). Is w(n) same as y(n) in (a) ? Obtain
its DFT W(k) and compare with your result Y(k) in (b)

5. You are given an unknown digital system with just the information that it stable and causal. You are
supposed to determine the frequency response and impulse response of it, so you apply a known input
x(n) =u(n) to the system and observe y(n) = (30/13) [ 0.8n – (-0.5)n] u(n) output.
a) Give the system function H(z), its ROC, and the frequency response H(ejω).
b) Calculate the impulse response h(n).
c) Give the difference equation of the system. Is this system FIR/IIR ?
