Weekly Blog: (9/3-9/9)

Monday(9/3):
On Monday, I got a much need break from school and got to catch up on many
things I need to work on. I started off my day by making a to-do list of everything in the
week and planned out when to do certain assignments as well as studying. I then
completed my Pre-Calculus homework to check the first item off my list. I then realized
that I had my first Research Assessment of senior year due at the end of the week. I did
get a head start and began looking up insightful articles related to my topic of
Emergency Medicine.
Tuesday(9/4):
Today, I came home from school and went to go get my flu shot done for Health
Science 3. After that, I began working on my contact list for ISM by spending an hour
looking up individuals in the field of Emergency Medicine. It took me a while to get ten
contacts so I knew I had to get this assignment done early to avoid procrastination. I
spent the rest of the day working on homework from my other classes and surprisingly
had the opportunity of sleeping early today.
Wednesday(9/5):
On Wednesday, I spent some more time looking for articles to do my research
assessment over. However, I decided to start looking for TED Talks on my topic instead
because I couldn't find an article that satisfied me. I watched a couple of TED Talks that
day and was still deciding between two videos. I then helped one of the ISM 1 students
perfect their professional voicemail for this year.
Thursday(9/6):
I spent most of Thursday finally deciding on which video to use for my research
assessment. After that was decided I watched the video a couple of times and began
writing my assessment. I learned a lot from that video and could reflect on it. It was
incredible that I didn't even know this video existed before I watched this TED Talk. I
also studied for my Pre-Calculus quiz and called it a night because I had a fever.
Friday(9/7):
I decided not to go to school today because I was sick and need to rest especially
because I had an ACT on Saturday. I spent most of the day in bed. I checked my
Research Assessment for any errors and put it through Grammarly just to be safe. I also
got a head start on my AP Art History project because I didn't have anything else to do.
After that, I made sure my contact list looked appealing and was formatted correctly. I
also went ahead and called all my ISM 1 students to check their voicemail and gave them
constructive criticism.
Saturday & Sunday(9/8-9/9):
On Saturday, I work up early to go and take an ACT. I spent most of the weekend
in bed recovering from my nasal congestion and sore throat. I also worked on my weekly
blog and began looking at more articles for the research assessment due next week. I
also worked on the assignment and classwork I missed on Friday because of my sick
day.
Reflection & Goals:
I was very productive this week which means senioritis hasn't kicked in yet. Next
week, I will complete all my assignment on time and began conducting phone calls.
Weekly Blog: (9/10-9/16)
Monday(9/10):
This Monday, I made sure I had turned in my weekly blog in on time and I viewed
all the assignments that were due this week. I then tweaked my phone script to
accommodate the new script, which will hopefully make me more successful than last
years. I rehearsed my phone script a couple times to make the words come out more
naturally leading me to sound less scripted. I also listened to my ISM 1 students
voicemail that they left and sent them back feedback if necessary. I then went home and
worked on my pre-calculus homework.
Tuesday(9/11):
On Tuesday, I got home from school and took a 30 minute nap to be more
productive for the rest of the day. After I woke up refreshed, I decided to work on ISM. I
began with my interview questions. Since I was doing a completely different topic this
year I had to do this assignment again this year. I spent a 10-20 rewording and
correcting my questions making sure they made sense and related to my topic properly.
I slept early to be more attentive in school tomorrow.
Wednesday(9/12):
Today, I started to look for an article to use for my research assessment. I don’t
know why, but for some reason, I am finding it hard to find quality articles for my topic
this year. It took me a whole hour to find an insightful article with good content in it. I
went ahead and pointed out the article and read it a cold time. I also decided it would be
good to annotate it because it would help me later on when I do my assessment. I then
spent the rest of the day working on Homework from other classes.
Thursday(9/13):
I spent most of Thursday working on my research assessment. I made sure to
include everything I learned over the article and how it impacted me. I then format it
correctly and made sure my citation was a hanging indent. After that, I read over my
assessment and made sure I caught all of my mistakes by putting my assessment
through grammarly. After I made sure I had no mistakes, I turned in my assignment. I
spent that rest of my day working on my weebly site and revised it if this year making
sure all the assignment on there were current.
Friday(9/14):
I turned in everything that was due today and spent class time helping ISM 1
student rehearsing their phone script and giving them some constructive commentary. I
came home and rehearsed my script by myself making sure I was ready to make phone
calls next week in class.
Saturday & Sunday(9/15-9/16):
I spent the week ending catching up on sleeping and going to the mosque. I also
worked on completing my weekly blog.
Reflection & Goals:
Next week I will make a call to everyone on my contact list and update it
appropriately. I will also complete all my ISM assignment a day before they are due to
prevent procrastination. I will help my ISM 1 students with their resume answering all
of these questions.
Weekly Blog: (9/17-9/23)
Monday(9/17):
On Monday, I made sure I updated my Weekly blog on weebly also making sure I
turned it in on classroom. After that, I reminded my ISM students what was due this
week so they would be on top of there ISM assignments. I also helped my friend, Elaina
that goes to Memorial with her resume. I then decided to start making phone calls when
I got so I would waste time getting through my contact list. However, many doctor
offices were not open so after a few calls, I decided to call later instead of leaving
voicemail after voicemail.
Tuesday(9/18):
I had much more luck with phones calls on Tuesday during the ISM period. I
spent the first of class working on updating my resume for this year. After that, I went
ahead and printed out three copies for the in-class for peer editing. However, I was not
going to be in class on Thursday so I gave the copies to Mr.Pirtle after school. When I
arrived home I began calling professionals and sent emails. After facing multiple brutal
rejections I decided to take a break and started working on the rest of my school work.
Wednesday(9/19):
Today I made more phone calls and send more emails however I had no luck once
again. For this reason, I decided to practice my phone script multiple times and edited
in order to improve. The rest of the day I edited my contact list in order for everything to
be up to date. I also found more contacts to call to have more professionals to call and
email.
Thursday(9/20):
Today I was unable to work in ISM due to having a religious holiday. My whole
day was spent at the mosque praying and when I arrived home late I worked on the rest
of my school work. I decided it would be unprofessional to email professionals at 10:00
so this is the reason I focused on my other school work. Since I was unable to make
phone calls today I will double my workload for next week and make phone calls early
release which I have both days.
Friday(9/21):
I turned it all my assignments and ensured that my contact list was up-to-date. I
made as many phone calls in between classes, activity period, and lunch. During this
period, I was able to land a potential interview. I decided to not be discouraged and
continue with confidence making phone calls even though I was facing many setbacks.
Saturday & Sunday(9/22-9/23):
I spent most of the weekend doing my English extra credit. I also worked on my
weekly blog when Sunday came around. I also started a really good show this weekend.
Reflection & Goals:
This week I am going to call everyone on my contact list. I not going to try to get
two interviews, but I will get two interviews. I also am going to add more contacts to my
list to make sure I will succeed at making calls.
Weekly Blog: (9/24-9/30)
Monday(9/24):
This Monday, I made sure I updated my Weekly blog on Weebly also insured I
turned it in on classroom. I finally got an interview set up for this Friday at 12:30. I was
thrilled, but a little scared for my first interview this year. I started prepping by going
through my interview questions. I also spend some time during class working on my
resume and making the edits Mr. Pirtle suggested.
Tuesday(9/25):
Today I worked on my business symposium questions and typed them out to be
prepared for Wednesday. Typing them out allowed me to know what I was saying and
start preparing for Business Symposium which is next Wednesday. I also prepared more
for my interview on Friday. I also used some of my free time to make more phone calls,
follow up on calls and send emails.
Wednesday(9/26):
In ISM class today we randomly got called on. Writing my responses to the
questions allowed me to be prepared. We also practiced networking and mock
interviews to be prepared for Business Symposium. Since I am an ISM 2 students I was
able to give feedback to ISM 1 students as well as play the part of the professional during
both activities.
Thursday(9/27):
When I arrived home I prepared a little more for my interview tomorrow
afternoon. The interview on Friday would mark my first interview of the school year and
for my new topic of Emergency Medicine. I also finished my research assessment that
was due this week and turned it in.
Friday(9/28):
I spent a lot of time today in the car because I went to my first meeting to the
hospital where I would introduce myself to many Emergency Doctors there and
hopefully get an interview by getting their contact information. I was really happy to get
a call back from one of the doctor. I was able to conduct an interview with her over the
phone. I finally got my first interview unexpectedly and also learned a lot more about
the profession I am interested in.
Saturday & Sunday(9/29-9/30):
On Saturday, some friends and I meet up and worked on my updating our
website and weekly blogs. I also made sure to turn in my weekly blog on Classroom.
Reflection & Goals:
This week I will make more phone calls and get another interview to narrow
down my search for an apt mentor. I will also not procrastinate to help me turn in my
assignment before they are due reducing stress. This week was very productive because I
was able to conduct an interview.
Weekly Blog: (10/1-10/7)
Monday(10/1):
This Monday, I talked with all my teachers about missing school on Wednesday
because of The Business Symposium. I was able to get all my school work as well as
scheduled the day I would make up the test I would be missing. I will be going to
Pre-Calc during my early release period tomorrow. I also practiced my answers for
Business Symposium and made last minute edits to my resume.
Tuesday(10/2):
Today in ISM we practiced mock interviews and during this time I was able to
help the ISM 1 students feel more confident. I was also able to notice the huge
improvements some students made. When I got home, I ironed my clothes and made
sure I had my 5 printed resumes in my portfolio. Afterward, Ximena and I took turn
asking and answering questions while we prepared for the big day ahead of us.
Wednesday(10/3):
Today was Business Symposium, I woke up early and made sure everything was
in order. I also arrived to Independence at 7:30 to make ensure we parked in the right
spot and went in with time to pick up our badge. Being an ISM v2 student allowed me to
experience Business Symposium a little different because I had the opportunity to have
a question and answer with ISM 1 students. I was also able to have an interview with a
college recruiter which was very interesting and I learned a lot of useful information.
Afterward, part of our ISM class and I went to lunch to celebrate our success. I had to
leave earlier as I had an interview at 1:30. The interview was a success because Dr. Reese
sounded really interested in the ISM program. However, it was the first interview so I
stayed away from the word “mentor” so I would not scare him away.
Thursday(10/4):
In ISM we discuss our success at Business Symposium as well as how to write
thank you cards to the professionals. We also had cookie cake thanks to Iqra Shah to
celebrate our accomplishment.
Friday(10/5):
Today I spent most of my day studying for my SAT tomorrow and relaxed. Since I
did not have school I also went to sleep pretty early.
Saturday & Sunday(10/6-10/7):
On Saturday, I worked on my weekly blog and took my SAT. I also started
reading articles I would be using for this week’s Research Assessment.
Reflection & Goals:
I was very happy with the turnout of Business Symposium and cannot believe this
year has gone by so fast. I am excited to see where the rest of the year will take me and
all the progress I will make. I want to be able to acquire 2 more interviews in order for
me to explore my options and decide on my mentor.
Weekly Blog: (10/8-10/14)
Monday(10/8):
This week was a pretty short week because we had Friday and Monday off. Since
it was a long weekend, got a chance to catch up on my sleep. I also finished reading my
independent reading of AP Literature. Aside from that, I also spent some time at KD
working on my ACT practice to improve my timing. I also made the schedule for the
upcoming week and decided I would follow it as best as I could.

Tuesday(10/9):
Today I worked on finding an article for my research assessment which actually
took almost an hour. I couldn’t decide on what I wanted to write my assessment over
and once I figured it out there wasn't many apt articles with what I was looking for. I
also finished up all my homework and studied for all of my classes.

Wednesday(10/10):
This Wednesday, the juniors were taking the PSAT and so all the ISM II student
had late arrival. Bunch of my ISM classmates and I planned to go out and eat breakfast
which helped our class bond and have a short break from the stress of college
applications. After that, we went to ISM for third period, but there wasn't much to do so
I worked a little on my research assessment and decided who I wanted to approach my
topic proposal.

Thursday(10/11):
When I arrived home, I finished up my research assessment. I also checked for
errors, but to be sure I sent it through grammarly making sure it was ready to be turned
in. Since the due date for the topic proposal was pushed back because of the PSAT I
decided to focus on finishing all my health science homework.

Friday(10/12):
After clinicals, I got back to school and in ISM I made sure I had turned in all the
assignments that were due on Friday. All of ISM II went to the library as Mr.Pirtle went
over the topic proposal so I decided to work on the topic proposal. I got home and my
sister surprised everyone at home as she showed up at from her college in Missouri so I
spent the rest of the evening with her.

Saturday & Sunday(10/13-10/14):

On Saturday, I worked on finishing up my topic proposal and checking it for any
errors through grammarly. After I finished that, I helped my mom because we were
having a religious gathering with more than a hundred people at my house. I spent
Sunday doing my weekly blog and turning it in.

Reflection & Goals:

This week overall was a slow week to relax and catch up on college applications.
Next week, I will deliver a mind-blowing presentation to my ISM class.
Weekly Blog: (10/15-10/21)
Monday(10/15):
This Monday, I made sure I updated my Weekly blog on Weebly also insured I
turned it in on classroom. I made a schedule for this hectic week to make sure I wouldn't
forget anything. It also will help me be less stressed this week because I will have a plan
to go by. Other than that, I worked on all the homework I got today when I got home
from school since it was a B-day. I also started preparing for the interviews I had to
conduct at Memorial and Heritage by getting my portfolio ready and making sure I had
the questions on hand.
Tuesday(10/16):
Today after finished clinical, I rushed back to school just in time to go to the
Memorial to help out the Professional Communications teacher. I had a chance to build
up my professional skill, while also helping Coach Copeland. I meet a lot of people that
can help me create connects in the future. We all also got a lot of food, which was also
good. When I got home I began brainstorming ideas for my Quick Presentations and
started writing my speech so I would be more prepared and less stressed.
Wednesday(1o/17):
In school, I read my speech over a couple of times to help it flow on Thursday as
well as also memorizing it. After coming home, I made my final addition to it and
practiced reading it to my stuffed animals. I also worked on all my homework and got
my professional dress ready from my speech. I also remembered to print out my rubric
so I wouldn't have any unnecessary points deducted from my speech.
Thursday(10/18):
When I arrived from the CTE center, I made sure my powerpoint didn't have any
errors in it and shared it with Mr.Pirtle. I wasn't sure if I was going to present because I
was last. However, I didn't end up doing and everything went smoothly and I got a lot of
constructive criticism. Everyone's speeches were very interesting and creative. When I
got home I got right to work on my interview assessment and finished before 9.
Friday(10/19):
I got to school early for tutorials, but I also turned in my interview assessment
after running it through grammar and fixing any mistakes that my eyes caught. I also
started my weekly blog and took a nap because this week had made me really tired. I
also did hang out with some of my friends later on that day.
Saturday & Sunday(10/20-10/21):
On Saturday, my friends and I went out to eat and have fun for homecoming. We
also watched a movie. When I got home I finished up my weekly bold and checked for
any errors. After I turned it in, I spent the rest of my weekend relaxing.
Reflection & Goals:
I will finish all my assignments earlier this week and work harder towards finding an apt
mentor. This week was successful because I accomplished a lot while having fun.
Weekly Blog: (10/22-10/28)
Monday(10/22):
This Monday, I made sure I updated my Weekly blog on Weebly while also
ensuring I turned it in on classroom. I then made a schedule, which was essential for
this hectic week because I got an interview I needed to prepare for. It also will help me
be less stressed this week because it’s almost the end of the six weeks and I have many
exams. Other than that, in ISM we watched a video of a kid’s speech and discussed why
he was successful in this presentation. I took a few points from the video and am going
to implant them for my next speech.
Tuesday(10/23):
After school, I spent most of my time looking for an article to use for my research
assessment that was current and intriguing. After browsing the internet for a while I
discover an article that discussed the opioid crisis and what Emergency Rooms are
doing about this epidemic and decided it would be perfect for this week's assessment. I
then read a couple of time, highlighting crucial information and began my research
assessment.
Wednesday(1o/24):
In school, I was very glad when Mr. Pirtle gave us free time to work in class. I
took advantage of this precious time and finished up my research assessment. I also
decided to start working on my Interview assessment, which was also due this Friday. I
took a break after finishing half of the assessment and spent the rest of relaxing. I got
home and sent a confirmation email to Dr. Reese about our interview on Friday.
Thursday(10/25):
When I come home from a long day at school, I started working on finishing up
all the assessments due tomorrow at Panera with Ximena. After I completed both
assessment, I sent them through grammarly as well as reading them over again. I finally
turned them in and began prepping for my interview on Friday.
Friday(10/26):
After clinicals, I went straight to my interview with Doctor Reese. However, I did
grab something to eat on the way because I skipped lunch. Overall, I would say the
interview was a success because I learned a lot of insightful things about emergency
medicine. However, I did find out that his plate is too full right now because he already
mentoring many students, which doesn’t help me in my search for a mentor. I still thank
him for his time and will send him a thank you card next week.
Saturday & Sunday(10/27-10/28):
On Saturday, I spent most of the day taking my ACT and afterward I just relaxed.
When I got home on Sunday, I finished up my weekly bold and checked for any errors.
After I turned it in, I spent the rest of my weekend hanging out with my friends.
Reflection & Goals:
This week was successful because I conducted an interview and got closer to my goal. I
will finish all my assignments earlier this week and work harder towards finding an apt
mentor.
Weekly Blog: (10/29-11/04)
Monday(10/29):
This Monday, I updated my Weekly blog on Weebly and I turned it in on
classroom after I made sure it was more than 200 words. Even Though I didn't have
ISM today I made note of the assignments that were due at the end of this week. They
helped me prioritize my time this week making sure I was focused and on task. I also
reached out to another Emergency doctor to conduct another in-depth interview. She
also revealed many things about the emergency room that I wasn’t aware of before.
Tuesday(10/30):
During ISM in school, we spent our time watching TED talks about the one thing
every high school student is going through right now, stress. However, it ruled about
how stress is not necessarily a negative thing depending on how the person interprets
the idea of “stress.” this video really opened up my eyes to how different factor can affect
you in a completely different way based on the way your mind perceives them. After
watching this video, I wanted to implement its lesson in my daily life by sees stress as a
healthy challenge to overcome.
Wednesday(1o/31):
After school, I got home and found out I got an email back from the Doctor I had
reached out to on Monday. I confirmed an interview with her in-person for next week
and got started on my assessment. I did my most recent interview so everything would
be fresh in my mind and more accurate. I typed up all the questions I had asked him as
well as his well thought out responses. I also started to work on the actual assessment,
but I had to also finish homework for my other classes.
Thursday(11/01):
We started off class with a another TED talk that focused on procrastination and
its effects on people. It was quite humorous and helped made me realize the stages of
procrastination through the eyes of someone else. After school, Ximena and I got
together at Starbucks and works on finishing out interview assessment. After that, I got
home and finished up all the homework for my B-day classes. I made sure to run my
assessment through grammarly to catch any mistakes.
Friday(11/02):
During school, I turned in my assignment before 4:15 and relaxed the rest of the
day without any stress. Since I had some extra time, I started to to compose the
beginning of my speech making sure it was eye-catching and appropriate for the
prompt. I also went to sleep early because I wanted to catch up on my sleep.
Saturday & Sunday(11/03-11/04):
On Saturday, I spent most of the day taking my SAT and afterward I just relaxed.
When I got home on Sunday, I finished up my weekly blog checking for any errors. After
I turned it in, I spent the rest of my weekend hanging out with my friends and working
on my speech for next week.
Reflection & Goals:
This week was successful because I scheduled an interview and got closer to my ISM
goal. I will finish the assignments this week and worked ahead of time for my speech.
Weekly Blog: (11/05-11/11)
Monday(11/05):
This Monday, I updated my Weekly blog on Weebly and I turned it in on
classroom after I made sure it was more than 200 words. I also had ISM today where I
watched all the presentations giving my peers feedback on their improvement and
praising them on what they did well. I got home and worked on my ISM presentation
that was on Wednesday as well as other homework that was due on Tuesday.
Tuesday(11/06):
As soon as I got home, I started practicing my ISM speech by reading it over a
couple times so when I would present it would seem more natural. I then began to
create my powerpoint to elevate my presentation even more. I had to make sure my
slides and speech matched while also making sure when I had to change the slides. After
I was done preparing, I printed out my rubric so I wouldn't lose unnecessary points and
went to bed early so I would be fresh.
Wednesday(11/07):
After Clinicals, I got to school professional dressed and ready to tackle the
12-minute speech. Besides a couple of slip-ups my speech was a success and the
powerpoint went smoothly with it as well. I was relieved after my speech was done, but
also focused on the class commentary so I would be able to implement it in my next
speech. I also began to prepare for my in-person interview with Dr. Sridevi Dasa, which
was the next day.
Thursday(11/08):
I got out of 3 period for my interview after talking to my teacher about what I had
to make up. After that, I arrived at Baylor tens minutes before the appointed and waited
in her office for Dr. Dasa to arrive for her shift. This was a very casual interview where
she also ended up asking some questions about me and my program. It was one of my
favorite interviews because I found out that she would be willing to take on a
mentorship.
Friday(11/09):
During ISM, I paid attention to all of the speech as well as making comments that
would help them improve their speaking skills. I also worked on my feedback bag
making sure it was perfect. I also spent some time sending emails and working on
college applications.
Saturday & Sunday(11/10-11/11):
On Saturday, I spent most of the day taking practice tests and afterward I just
relaxed. When I got home on Sunday, I finished up my weekly blog checking for any
errors. After I turned it in, I spent the rest of my weekend planning out the week.
Reflection & Goals:
This week was successful because I conducted an interview and got closer to my ISM
goal. I will finish the assignments this week and worked ahead of time for assignments.
Weekly Blog: (11/26-12/02)
Monday(11/26):
This Monday, I did not have a Weekly blog due so I focused more on college
application since the deadline was approaching fast. In ISM, we basically had a study
period to catch up our assignments after Mr. Pirtle gave a few reminders about the
week. I spent this time to determine what to do for my evidence of learning. After
finding an apt article that works well which my topic this year, I spend the rest of class
reading the article in depth and highlighting key points I want to include in my
assignment. I got a head start on this evidence of learning so I would not be
procrastinating on Thursday night.
Tuesday(11/27):
I did not have ISM today so I worked on other homework that was due on
Tuesday including creating my comments/feedback bag for my ISM presentations. Also
spent some time reflecting on the article I discovered on Monday.
Wednesday(11/28):
In school, Mr. Pirtle spent most of the time going over expectation for our digital
and paper portfolio. Even Though I already knew most of the information from last year,
it was a nice refresher. It also snapped me back to reality reminding me that all of the
assignments for Winter Showcase were due in two weeks. Since I was motivated by Mr.
Pirtle’s reminder, I made a to-do list for ISM to make sure I wouldn't be stressed or
overwhelmed by the deadline.
Thursday(11/29):
After school, I didn't have to spend too much time on the assignment due Friday
because half of it was completed since I started working on it during Monday. After I
completed my assignment I went ahead a checked for any errors and also put it through
grammarly just to safe. After turning it in, I took a break but got to work once I
remember all the things that were due in a couple of weeks.
Friday(11/30):
During ISM, we watched an amazing TED talk that reminded me of the fact to
never judge a book b the cover as well as not letting other people define who you are.
After the insightful video, we had a deep conversation as a class that helped us to put all
the information into perspective. After making sure I turned in the evidence of learning
due at 4:15, I began my to-do list. I worked on creating an eye-catching invitation for
final presentation.
Saturday & Sunday(12/01-12/02):
On Saturday, I spent most of the day taking my last SAT and afterward I just
celebrate. When I got home on Sunday, I finished up my weekly blog checking for any
errors. After I turned it in, I spent the rest of my weekend planning out the week and
working on my paper portfolio.
Reflection & Goals:
This week was successful because I did a lot to get prepared for the upcoming Winter
Showcase. I will finish the assignments this week and worked ahead of time for
assignments.
