SUPERMAN TEAM

Classroom Procedures
2018—2019
The following is a list of procedures that will allow you to participate successfully in
classroom activities, to learn, and to function effectively in the school environment.
➢ What do you need for class?
Bring the following supplies every day: CHARGED Chromebook, assignments,
binder/folder (paper), blue/black pen/cil, composition book, a positive attitude, and
LIBRARY BOOK (or check out one from the classroom library).
➢ How do you enter the classroom?
You are to enter the classroom calmly and quietly with all of your materials, ready to work.
Sit in your assigned seat, read your assignment and class objective, and begin working on the
Warm-Up. ALL bathroom needs MUST be taken care of BEFORE the tardy bell rings.
➢ What if you are tardy?
You are considered tardy if you are not IN your assigned seat with all of your supplies writing the assignment or
working on the Warm-Up by the bell. Entering the room after the bell for any reason requires you to sign the TARDY
TRACKER, even if you have a signed excuse. Leaving class after the tardy bell for any reason results in a tardy.
NO ONE is allowed in the hallways during the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes of class.
➢ What if you are absent?
If you are absent, you must (1) present your admit, (2) review the objective and assignment, (3) complete the
assignment on your own time. Teachers are available if you would like extra help, time in a classroom to work, or
technology. It is your responsibility to turn in absent assignments on time according to the BISD policy.
➢ What is the end-of-period dismissal?
The bell does not dismiss you from class: the teacher does. The teacher will give you ample time to properly store
materials, clean your area, and gather your things before you are dismissed. You are to remain IN your seat until the
teacher dismisses you.
➢ Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones can be a major distraction in the learning environment. BISD has phones in all classrooms in
case of an emergency. Cell phones should be placed in a secure location before class begins: your locker or
the teacher’s cell phone charging station box. Otherwise, the phone will be confiscated and parents
contacted.
➢ What kind of behavior is expected of you?
→Exhibit Panther PRIDE: Purposeful, Respectful, Integrity, Determination, and Excellence. By setting a positive
example and exhibiting Panther PRIDE, students will be periodically rewarded.
→You will behave in a polite, considerate, and cooperative manner. This includes saying “Please” and “Thank you”
and not saying “Shut up” or making fun of others. Off task behaviour such as note writing, talking, drawing, working
on other assignments, being on incorrect computer programs, websites, apps, or extensions, or inappropriate cell
phone use will result in a warning, conference, parent contact, detention, or an office referral, depending on the
severity of the offense and your response.
→You will have an assigned seat. If you think that you need to move to a different seat to avoid getting into trouble
or due to vision problems, discuss this with the teacher after class, and the teacher will attempt to resolve the
problem.
→You are expected to get a drink of water and go to the restroom between classes.

1
→Please never place books of any kind on the floor (Chromebooks, textbooks, library books, etc). Placing books on
the floor is a tripping hazard as well as an ideal way for that book to be damaged.
→Your SUPERMAN Team teachers expect you to follow directions, participate in class, and ask questions for
clarification. We need every teachable moment to prepare you for the next level.
➢ What are the class work procedures?
→Completed work will be collected, placed in the box for your class, or submitted to Google Classroom, not handed
to the teacher or placed on her/his desk. The teacher is not responsible for any assignments that are not turned into
the correct location by the correct time.
→Assignments with grades below 50 indicate a lack of understanding. The lesson must be retaught, and the
assignment corrected or reworked. This could result in a Prime Time placement or after school Study Hall to help
with understanding.
→Trash or paper to be recycled should be disposed of at the end of class on the way out of the room. All trash will
be picked up and discarded, books returned to shelves, and the room straightened before you are dismissed from
class.
→Cheating, copying others’ work (including copying and pasting from the Internet without proper citations),
plagiarizing, having someone do your work, or incorrect grading will result in discipline as outlined in the
BISD regulations: The student will be required to redo the assignment or complete an alternative
assignment for a grade of no more than 70 on the work. Further interventions may include attending
tutoring, referral to counseling, or referral to campus administration. Disciplinary action may be considered.
➢ What if your assignments are late?
Work is considered late if it is not turned in when requested by the teacher, generally at the start of class. Grade
deductions will occur as outlined in the BISD regulations: 5% per day (10% for PreAP) will be deducted for late work
with a maximum penalty of 30%. Any work turned in after the progress reporting period (essentially every 3 weeks)
will not be accepted. For time-sensitive or crucial material, your parent may be notified and you may receive study
hall until the assignment is completed.
➢ What if you damage school property?
Chromebooks, textbooks, and technology in general are a great expense and must be handled with care and respect
at all times. Any student who damages school property will be held accountable, and disciplinary action might be
taken. Never place textbooks or library books on the floor. Please inform the teacher immediately if damage occurs.
➢ What if there is a Substitute Teacher?
If a substitute teacher is in charge of the classes for the day, you are to treat him/her with the utmost respect. You
represent our school, and we value positive reports in the community. Any student who receives a bad report from a
substitute will receive an automatic parent contact and severe consequences.
➢ What if the teacher phone is ringing?
Students are NOT allowed to answer the phone. It is unprofessional. Please alert the teacher instead.
➢ What if other students and/or visitors enter the room?
Throughout the year, many visitors will enter the classroom to observe us. You are to continue your assignment as
instructed by the teacher as though the visitors are not present. Be on your best behaviour.
