1. INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background
The incidence of appendicitis in developed countries is higher than in developing
countries. However, in the past three to four decades the incidence has declined
significantly. This is thought to be due to increased use of fibrous food in daily diet
(Santacroce, 2009).
From the results of the Household Health Survey (SKRT) in Indonesia, acute
appendicitis is one of the causes of acute abdomen and several indications for
emergency abdominal surgery. The incidence of appendicitis in Indonesia ranks
highest among other cases of abdominal emergencies (MOH 2008). Central Java
Health Office said in 2009 the number of cases of appendicitis in Central Java was
5,980 patients, and 177 of them caused death. It shows that appendicities incidents
are high in Indonesia.

2. DEFINITION AND SYMPTOMS

2.1 Definition
Appendicitis is a condition where the appendix becomes swollen, inflamed, and
filled with pus. The appendix is a small finger-shaped pouch on the right side of the
abdomen, connected to the colon.
2.2 The Symptoms
- Progressively worsening pain
- Painful coughing or sneezing
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Inability to pass gas (break wind)
- Fever
- Constipation
- Ioss of appetite
3. ASPECTS THAT CAN CAUSE APPENDICITIS
3.1 Aspects can cause

Appendicitis occurs when the appendix is blocked, often containing feces, foreign
objects. Blockage can also occur due to infection, because it swells in response to
infection in the body. From grains that clog in the intestine then becames constipation
and clog in the appendix. Those happens because of :

- Drink less mineral water

- Often hold the bowel movement
- Eat foods that have grains
- Eat spicy food

4. THE MEDICAL TREATMENTS

4.1 The Medical Treatments

Surgery to remove the appendix, which is called an appendectomy, is the standard

treatment for almost all cases of appendicitis.

Generally, if appendicitis is suspected, doctors tend to err on the side of safety and
quickly remove the appendix to avoid its rupture. If the appendix has formed an abscess,
you may have two procedures: one to drain the abscess of pus and fluid, and a later one
to remove the appendix. However, there is some research showing that treatment of
acute appendicitis with antibiotics may eliminate the need for surgery in certain cases.

5. THE PREVENTIONS
5.1 The Preventions
There is no way to prevent appendicitis. However, appendicitis may be less
common in people who eat foods high in fiber, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.
- Don’t eat hold bowel movement
- Avoid eat foods that have grains
- Avoid eating spicy food
- Eat enough high fiber food
6. CONCLUSION
Appendicitis is a dangerous disease in Indonesia because many Indonesians suffer from
this disease, therefor we should not be exposed or avoid this disease so we should avoid
consuming spicy foods because they can damage the intestinal system, especially the
intestines. Therefor, with this paper, the readers can apply it to avoid the disease.
