INFORMATION FOR 4TH LEVEL / FFIRST COURSE OF THE

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL B2

Dear Student,

Now you’ve got over the intermediate level B1 of E.O.I learning and things become a little
more interesting and slightly more difficult. You have now entered the first course of the
intermediate B2 level leading up to the intermediate B2 Certificate by the end of 5 th
level.
The philosophy behind this level is somehow different from the previous ones.
Survival English is what is being tested by the end of the third level and somehow about
everybody can take and pass the Intermediate Certificate B1. However, not everybody will
get to the end of this cycle and pass the Intermediate Certificate B2. The level demanded
is NOT easy and it will require a considerable amount of effort on your part. Therefore, do
not expect to pass onto 5th level just because you have attended class.

1
Assessment:

The 5 skills are going to be assessed twice in 2 different tests: CE (reading), CO

(listening), UL (grammar), EE (writing) and EO (speaking). Each one of these skills
caters for 20% of the final mark. Those students that pass the continuous assessment
get automatically promoted to 5th level without taking the final exam and each test
caters for 50% of the final mark. Students need to get 65%/100 to pass. If students fail
to take more than 3 parts of the tests (there are a total amount of 10 parts) they can’t pass
and they have to take the final exam. Those students who do not pass the continuous
assessment or do not take the tests must take the final exam in order to pass onto 5 th level.
The final exam will cater then for 100% of the mark.
In case students miss 35% or more of the class hours of the course, that is to say 49
hours or more of classes, they will not pass the continuous assessment and the final exam
is also going to cater for the 100% of the mark.

The continuous assessment is optional and not necessary to pass the course.
Therefore, the tests can only be taken on the day designated for them.

Final exam:
CE (reading) 20% EE (writing) 20%
