Pûjå Workbook

Åcamanam
This rite is done before every ritual activity and consists of the sipping of water for physical,
mental and verbal sanctification.

Water is taken holding the uddharini (spoon) in the left hand and pouring it into the palm of
the right hand. The water is then sipped from the base of the palm while reciting the following
mantras;

Sanctification of the physical body as the temple of God.


Touch the various parts of the body indicated while reciting the names of God and using the
fingers of the right hand only, and touching the right organ first and then the left one.

Alternative Method
Take a little water in the right palm, and sip it thrice chanting: the name of the i߆ha-devatå

Wash both hands and sprinkle a little water on the head and legs.
Touch the upper and lower lips with three middle fingers joined together
Touch the right and left nostrils with the thumb and forefinger
Touch the eyes and ears with the thumb and ring-finger
Touch the navel with the thumb and little finger.

Wash the hands again.

Touch the chest with the right palm


Touch the head with all the fingers, and then the navel with the palm.

Elaborate Preliminaries
Wearing washed clothes after bath, you should enter the shrine, prostrate yourself and sit on
the Asana facing east or north. If you are to worship with the sixteen items

Prepare a ring of Kusha grass and wear it on the ring-finger. concentrate your mind and think
that the Chosen Ideal is seated before you graciously to accept your worship. Clean the picture
with a wet handkerchief kept for the purpose and decorate it with sandal paste, flowers and
garlands. Then do Achamana.

Perform åcamanam — Then light the lamp.

1. Bhûtotsådanam
Ring the bell.
apasarpantu te bhûtå ye bhûtå bhuvi samsthitå¿ |
ye bhûtå vighnakartåras te naçyantu çivåjñayå ||
apakråmantu bhûtåni piçåcå¿ sarvato diçam |
sarveßåm avirodhena brahma karma samårabhe ||

Depart hence all elementals and those also which are earth-bound, all the obstructive forces
are destroyed by the command of Lord çiva. May all the elementals, obstructing spirits and
others not cause hindrance for I’m about to commence a sacred rite.

Touch th ground with the little finger of the right hand.

3. Pußpa çuddhi¿
Show dhenu mudra, sprinkle water on the flowers;

pußpe pußpe mahåpußpe supußpe pußpa-saµbhave |

4. Kara çuddhi¿
Take a flower touched with sandal paste on the left palm recite the mantra then crush it with
the right palm and throw it to the left.

oµ raµ astråya pha† !

5. Saºkßipta bhûta-çuddhi¿
Place the right palm on the left palm on the lap and recite the following mantra
while imagining the purification of the elements.

oµ bhûta 箺gå†åcchira¿ sußumnå pathena yaµ jîva-çivaµ


parama çiva-pade yojayåmi svåhå |
oµ yaµ li±ga-çaîraµ çøßaya çøßaya svåhå |

6. vyåpaka -nyåsa¿
Pass the outstretched palms from the chest to the head then from the head to the feet 3, 5 or 7
times while reciting the bîja mantra aiµ

7. Jîva-nyåsa¿
Touch the chest with the right palm reciting:

The body is the temple and the eternal Self is the deity. Abandoning ignorance one should
worship with the idea that I am That.

clap the hands and snap the fingers in the 8 directions around you

11. Prå±åyåma
Sit erect keeping the spine straight, shut the mouth, press against the right nostril with the right
thumb and inhale through, the left nostril repeating - aiµ - four times. Then press against the
left nostril with the last two fingers of the right hand and repeat the same Mantra sixteen times
holding your breath.
Next release the, right nostril and breathe out through it, repeating the
same mantra eight times. Reverse the process by inhaling through the right nostril, suspending
and exhaling through the left, but keeping the same count as before. Again reverse the process
keeping the same count.

If this is found difficult, reduce the number of repetitions of the Mantra to 2, 8 and- 4 times
respectively. Then repeat karanyåsa¿ and aºga-nyåsa¿ as before.

12. Vighnopaçamanam
Meditate on Ganesha for the removal of obstacles and repeat.

çuklåµ baradharam devaµ çaçi var±aµ caturbhujaµ |


prasanna vadanaµ dhyåyet sarva vighnopa çåntaye ||

The All-pervading Lord is to be meditated upon for the removal of obstacles; Clad in white
garments, resplendent like the Moon, the four armed and cheerful-faced.

13. Guru Vandana


Salute the lineage of spiritual masters;

oµ guµ gurubhyo nama¿


gurur brahma gurur viß±or gurur devo maheçvara¿ |
guru såkßåt param brahma tasmai çrî gurave nama¿ || 1 ||

Salutations to that glorious guru who is the creator, preservor and transformer, who is the
Great Lerd Himself, the directly perceived form of God.

akha±¥a ma±¥alåkåram vyåptam yena caråcaram |


tat padam darçitam yena tasmai çrî gurave nama¿ || 2 ||
Salutations to that glorious guru who has shown me that Supreme Being, who in the form of unbroken
glory pervades the universe of the moving and non-moving beings.

ajñåna timiråndhasya jñånåñjana çalåkayå |


cakßur unmilitam yena tasmai çrî gurave nama¿ || 3 ||
Salutations to that glorious guru who, when my sight was blinded by the darkness of ignorance,
restored it to the light of knowledge and truth.

ajñåna gahanåloka sûrya somågni mûrtaye |


du¿kha trayågni saºtåpa çåntaye gurave nama¿ || 4 ||

Salutation to my preceptor, who has the form of Surya, Soma and Agni, illuminating the deep
darkness of ignorance and who quenches the fire of the three types of misery.

14. Ganesha Vandana


Take a flower dipped in sandal paste, repeat the çloka and then offer it on the altar.

eka-dantam çûrpa-kar±am gaja-vaktram mahodaram |


påçåºkuça-dharam devam dhyåyet siddhi vinåyakam ||
I visualise Siddhi Vinayaka, elephant-faced, single tusked, with ears like winnowing baskets and an
enormous abdomen, wielding the noose and the goad.

Repeat the following verses:—


sumukhaçcaikadantaçca kapilo gaja-kar±aka¿ |
lambodaraçca vika†o vighna-nåço vinåyaka¿ || 1 ||

dhûmra-ketur ga±ådhakßo bhåla-candro gajånana¿ |


vakratu±¥a çûrpa-kar±a heramba, skanda-pûrvaja || 2 ||

ßo¥açaitåni nåmåni ya¿ pa†hecch®±uyådapi ||


vidyårambhe vivåhe ca praveça nirgame tathå |
saºgråme saºka†e caiva vighnas tasya na jåyate || 3 ||

Or one can offer flowers with each of the following mantras:—

15. Pûrva Pûjå

Om in order to mitigate all negative karma, in order to please the Supreme Being, for the pleasure of

B. Pradhåna Saºkalpa¿ — Elaborate Resolve

The days, the dates and the constellations are all Vishnu, so also the conjunctions and other
astronomical phenomena; the entire universe is pervaded by Vishnu.

White Boar, during the universal rule of Vaivasvata Manu in the 28th period, during the first
quarter of the age of Kali, on the planet Earth in land .......... of mount Meru, in the Golden
Land, in the country of ..............., in the metropolis of ..............., in the year .................... of the
60 year Jovian cycle, in the .................. solstice, during the .................. season, in the month
of ...................... in the .................. fortnight, on the .................. lunar day, on a .............. day
under the constellation of .................... with auspicious conjunctions, and all the planets being
benevolently disposed;

On this auspicious day in order to diminish the accumulated effects of all my negative karma,
for the sake of my family and friends I shall perform the worship of ....... so that we may all
obtain the blessings of increased prosperity, security, energy, victory, longevity, health etc.
To remove all inauspiciousness and to obtain the blessings of the deity for acquiring the four
aims of human life — dharma, wealth, enjoyment and liberation. So that all obstacles will be
overcome and all goals achieved, so that auspiciousness will prevail for the Ruler of the entire
cosmos, to gain the grace of the god ........... I now perform the worship of ...................

C. Sadhaka Saºkalpa¿

maitri, karu±a, mudita, upekßa catur vidha saµsåra bheßaja siddhyartham,
samasta bhûteßu adroha, anugraha, tathå dånam - ete dharmasya trividha
aºgåni vrddhyartham, indriya-nigraha siddhyartham, samasta sanmaºgala
åvåptyarthaµ, sva-sva sådhana siddhyartham, ....... devasya pûjåm karißye ||

On this auspicious day, for the development of insight, devotion and dispassion, in order to
perfect the four medications of Samsara - friendliness, compassion, empathetic joy and non-
attachment, for the generation of the three components of Dharma — absence of prejudice,
compassion and generosity, for the accomplishment of sense-control, in order to obtain well-
being and advancement of spiritual practice, we now perform..............

17. Kalaça Pûja — Sanctification of the Water


Place a vessel filled with water to the right, add parimala dravya, and a flower. decorate the
four sides with sandal paste and kumkum. Offer some flowers:—

oµ gaºgåyai nama¿ | yamunåyai nama¿ | godåvaryai nama¿ | sarasvatyai


nama¿ | narmadåyai nama¿ | sindhave nama¿ | kåveryai nama¿ || pußpai
pûjayåmi ||

Cover the mouth of the vessel with the right hand or show the ankusha mudra.

kalaçasya mukhe viß±u¿ ka±†he rudra samåçrita¿ |


mûle tatra sthito brahmå madhye måt®ga±å¿ sm®tå¿ ||
kukßau tu sågara sarva sapta dvîpa vasundharå |

The mouth of this vessel (representing the universe) is Vishnu, the neck is Rudra, the Base
is Brahma, in the centre all the sounds of the letters reside. All the oceans are within your
belly along with the seven continents.

pußkarådyåni tîrthåni gaºgådyå¿ saritas tathå |


åyantu mama rakßårthaµ durita kßaya kårakå¿ ||

May all the sacred pools, and tanks along with the Ganga and other rivers and streams be
present here to protect me and to erase my negative impressions.

Show the purificatory mudras — garuda, dhenu, shankha, cakra, meru — then take the
flower and sprinkle everything and oneself with the water.

Aspersion
oµ apavitra¿ pavitro vå sarvåvasthaµ-gatopi vå |
yas-smaret pu±¥arikåkßaµ sa båhyåbhyantaraç-çuci¿ ||
Pure or impure, being in any condition whatsoever, he who meditates upon the Lotus-eyed
Lord Vishnu is purified both physically and mentally.

18. Çaºkha Pûjå


Fill the conch with water and place a tulsi leaf in it and then chant the following verses:—

tvaµ purå sågarotpanna¿ viß±unå vidh®ta¿ kare |


nirmita¿ sarva devaistu pañcajanya namo’stu te ||
You were born originally from the sea, and are held in the hand of Vishnu. Created by all the
gods, salutations to you panchajanya.

Offer flowers:—
pavanåya nama¿ |
påñcajanyåya nama¿ |
padma-garbhåya nama¿
amburåjåya nama¿ |
kamburåjåya nama¿ |
dhavalåya nama¿ |

Sprinkle all the pîujå items and yourself with the water.

19. Viçeßa arghya sthåpanam (Elaborate)


On your left draw a triangle with water, enclose it by a circle and then draw a square around
it and offer some flowers on the diagram touched with sandal paste, saying:

oµ ådhåra çaktaye nama¿ — salutations to the supporting energies of


the Universe.
oµ mûla p®ak®tyai nama¿ — salutations to primordial matter
oµ ådi kurmåya nama¿ — salutations to the Cosmic Turtle
oµ anantåya nama¿ — salutations to Serpent of Eternity
oµ saµ sattvåya nama¿
oµ raµ rajase nama¿
oµ taµ tamase nama¿
oµ yoga pî†håya nama¿ — salutations to seat of Yoga

Then place a tripod — (tripadikå) on the diagram, take a conch, wash it uttering — huµ
pha† — fill three-fourths of the conch with water and place it on the tripod, mentally
repeating — aiµ — place the following in the conch:— Bilva leaf, Dûrva grass, sandal
paste, akßata, a red hibiscus (javå) and and an Aparijåta- flower, place them on the conch
uttering the main Mantra —aiµ — and offer flowers touched with sandal paste.saying:—

May the 7 divine streams of Light represented by the rivers Gange, Yamuna, Godavari,
Sarasvati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri be present in these waters.

Pour some of the water out, and sprinkle the rest on your head and on all the items of pûjå.

For invoking the gods and for expelling the antigods, and for the welfare of all beings I now
ring the bell.

21. Dîpa pûjå


Offer flowers dipped in sandal paste:— oµ dîpa-nåtha bhairavåya nama¿ ||

bhaktyå dîpaµ prayacchåmi devåya paramåtmane |


tråhi måµ timiråt ghoråt divya jyoti namo’stute ||
With devotion I offer you this lamp O Supreme Being, protect me from the terrible darkness of
ignorance, I salute the divine Light of Wisdom.

22. Dhûpa påtra pûjå


Offer flowers dipped in sandal paste:—
oµ dhûpa-påtrådhidevata gandharvåya nama¿ ||

Laghu Pûjå
1. Dhyånam —Visualisation
Take a flower in the hands and meditate upon the icon. Visualize the deity seated within your
heart, and then tansfer the deity into the flower by slowly breathing out and then place the
flower at the feet of the icon. Repeat the dhyåna çloka (if known) and then the following mantra
inserting the name of the deity that is being worshipped. (If a Goddess then substitute devyai
for devåya)

2. Åvåhanam — Invocation

oµ bhûr bhuvas suva¿ ................ nama¿, dhyåyåmi, åvåhayåmi, sthåpayåmi.

In the following sequences first repeat the mûla mantra or the gåyatri mantra of the deity and
then the statement of service. Samarpayåmi means I” am offering unto you”

He is calm, and is the image of mercy. On his left his Shakti, holding in her hand a lotus,
embraces him. He is smiling and gracious, the bestower of the fulfilment of the desires of his

holding a noose, goad, the Benefactor, supporting the universe with his hands, having the

red vermillion paste, worshipped with red flowers, always attentive to the supplications of the
devotees, the cause of the universe, the Unsullied One who was manifested before the universe was
created and existed prior to the manifestation of soul and matter.

On that One alone we meditate, that One alone we in mind worship,


To that One alone the Witness of the Universe we bow.
Refuge we seek with the One Who is our sole Eternal Support,
The Self-existent Lord, the Vessel of safety in the ocean of being.

Tara (the saviour) the great boon bestowing one.

O Durga! Great Being, the fierce bestower of victory! O (personification of) Victory! O you that
bears a banner of peacock plumes, O one decked with every ornament.

O you that wields an awful spear, the holder of sword and-shield, O you that were born as the
younger sister of the chief of cow-herds, O eldest sibling, born in the family of the cowherd Nanda!

mahißa-s®k priye nityaµ kauçiki pîta-våsini |


a††ahåse koka-mukhe namaste’stu ra±a-priye || 5 ||
O you who are always fond of buffalo’s blood, born of Kusika’s clan, dressed in yellow robes,
having assuming the face of a wolf you devoured the Asuras! I bow to you who are fond of battle!

ume çåkambhari çvete k®ß±e kai†abhanåçini |


hira±yåkßi virûpåkßi sudhûmråkßi namo’stu te || 6 ||
O Uma! O Sakambhari! O you that are white in hue, and also black! O slayer of the Asura
Kaitabha! O yellow-eyed one! O you that see everything! O you of eyes that have the colour of
smoke, I bow to you!
vedaçruti mahåpu±ye brahma±ye jåtavedasi |
jambûka†aka caityeßu nityaµ sannihitålaye || 7 ||
You are the Vedas, the Srutis, and the greatest virtue! You are propitious to Brahmanas engaged
in sacrifice. You are all knowing, you are ever present in the sacred abodes erected to you in cities
of Jamvudwipa, I bow to you!

tvaµ brahma-vidyå vidyånåµ mahånidrå ca dehinåµ |


skanda måtar bhagavati dure kåntaravåsini || 8 ||
You are the Knowledge-of-the-highest-truth among sciences, and you are that sleep of creatures
from which there is no waking. O mother of Skanda, possesor of the six (highest) attributes of
Divinity, O Durga, that dwells in the most inaccessible regions.

svåhåkåra¿ svadhå caiva kalå kå߆hå sarasvatî |


såvitri veda-måtå ca tathå vedånta ucyate || 9 ||
You are called Swaha, and Swadha, and the subtle divisions of time such as Kala, and Kashta. You are the
goddess of knowledge: Saraswati, and ihe mother of the Vedas, and the personification of Vedanta.

stutåsi tvaµ mahådevi viçuddhenåntaråtmanå |


jayo bhavatu me nityaµ tvat prasådåd ra±åjire || 1O ||
With inner mind purified, I praise you, O great goddess, let victory always attend me through your
grace, on the field of battle.

kåntåra bhaya durgeßu bhaktånåµ cålayeßu ca |


nityaµ vasasi påtåle yuddhe jayasi dånavån || 11 ||
In inaccessible regions, where there is fear, in places of difficulty, in the abodes of your worshippers
and in the nether regions (Patala), you always dwell. And in battle you always defeat the Danavas.

tvaµ jambhanî mohinî ca måyå hrî¿ çrîstathaiva ca |


saµdhyå prabhåvatî caiva såvitrî jananî tathå || 12 ||
You are the unconsciousness, the sleep, the illusion, the modesty, the beauty of (all creatures).
You are the twilight, and the radiant light of day! You are Savitri, and you are the mother of all
creation.
tu߆i¿ pu߆ir dh®tir dîptiç candråditya vivardhinî |
bhûtir bhûtimatåµ saºkhye vîkßyase siddhacåra±ai¿ || 13 ||
You are contentment, development, fortitude and light. You increase the radiance of the Sun and
the Moon. You are the prosperity of those that prosper. The Siddhas and the Charanas behold
you in deep contemplation!

Victory to you O Goddess Chamundi who ultimately destroys all beings (in the form of Time),
victory to you who are all pervading, salutations to you who are the Dark Night.

durgå çivå kßamå dhåtrî svåhå svadhå namo’stu te || 2 ||
You are the great victor, the auspicious one, personification of Time, the bearer of the skull
(symbolising impermenance). Salutations to you; the one who is hard to understand, the beneficial
one, forgiving, the Mother, the offering to the gods as well as the ancestors.

madhu-kai†abha vidhvaµsi vidhåt® varade nama¿ |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 3 ||
Salutations to you who destroyed the twin demons Madhu and Kaitabha (attraction and aversion),
the creatrix and the giver of boons. Grant me spiritual form, victory over the ills of samsara,
spiritual fame and the destruction of inner enemies (anger, selfishness and delusion).

mahißasura nirnåçi bhaktånåµ sukhade nama¿ |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 4 ||
Salutations to you who destroyed Mahishasura (demon of ignorance) and the one who grants
happiness to the devotees.

dhûmra-netra vadhe devi dharma kåmårtha dayini |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 5 ||
You killed the demon of delusion (Dhumra-netra = Cloudy-eyed), and you promote the three
aims of life; Dharma, the moral enjoyment of pleasure and pursuit of wealth.

raktabîja vadho devi ca±¥a-mu±¥a vinåçini |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 6 ||
You killed the demon of desire (Rakta-bija) and the twin demons of Egoism and Possessiveness
(Chanda and Munda).

niçumbha çumbha nirnåçi trailokya çubhade nama¿ |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 7 ||
You destroyed the demons of hurt and injury (Shumbha and Nishumbha) and grant
auspiciousness to the three realms of existence (external, internal and transcedental).

vanditåºghri-yuge devi sarva saubhågya dåyini |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 8 ||

I bow to your two feet O Devi, the giver of all forms of well-being.

acintya-rûpa carite sarva çatru vinåçini |

Your form O Goddess is truly inconceivable, you destroy all (the internal mental) enemies which
obstruct our progress to enlightenment.

All those devotees who bow to you with devotion, have their difficulties (which obstruct their
spiritual growth) removed.

stuvadbhyo bhakti pûrvam tvåm ca±¥ike vyådhi-nåçini |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 11 ||
To those who praise you with devotion O Chandika you destroy their disease (which is
immersion in worldly attachments).

ca±¥ike satataµ yuddhe jayanti påpa-nåçini |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 12 ||
O Chandika you are always victorious in battle (against those things which obstruct our spiritual
progress), and you are the destroyer of sin.

dehi saubhågyam arogyam dehi devi param sukham |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 13 ||
O Devi grant me well-being, health (here and now so that I can serve others) and final liberation
hereafter.

vidhehi devi kalya±aµ vidhehi vipulam çriyam |


rûpaµ dehi jayaµ dehi yaço dehi dvißo jahi || 14 ||
Grant us good fortune and many resources (so that we may use them in serving others).

vidhehi dvißatåµ nåçaµ vidhehi balam-uccakai¿ |

Grant us the moral and mental strength to overcome all our internal enemies (Selfishness, greed,
anger, delusion etc.) which obstruct our spiritual development.

All the crowns of the gods and the anti-gods are all bowed down to your feet O Ambika.

O Devi please destroy my Pride also which is so very strong and demonic.

You O Supreme Goddess of the Universe are praised by Brahma the creator.

Even Lord Krishna has praised you O Devi Mother of the Universe, with intense devotion.

With a pleasant mind I offer my obeisance to the beautiful one, the lover of Krishna, the sister of
the Moon, the one is reverenced by all the sages, the giver of liberation, the sweet speaking one, the
one who is conveyed by the Veda, the one who dwells within the lotus, worshipped by the gods, the
one who showers the sattva guna, the peaceful one, Victory to you O Beloved of Krishna, Victory
O Primeval Lakshmi, please protect me.

ai kali-kalmaßa nåçinî kåminî vaidika rûpi±î veda-maye |


kßîra-samudbhava maºgala rûpinî yantra nivåsinî mantra-nutte ||

O You beloved destroyer of the sins of quarreling, who has become manifest through the Veda,
and is pervaded by divine knowledge, born from the Milk-ocean, the form of auspiciousness, who
dwells within the yantra and is conveyed through mantra. The bestower of auspiciousness, the
lotus-dweller, the one in whose feet the devas take refuge, Victory to you O Beloved of Krishna,
Victory O Lakshmi of Grain, please protect me.

jaya vara varminî vaiß±avî bhårgavî mantra-svarûpinî mantra-maye |


sura-ga±a pûjita çîghra phala-prada jñåna vikåçinî çåstra-nutte ||

Glory to you, O benefactor, the consort of Vishnu of the clan of Bhrgu, manifested through mantra
and pervaded by mantra. O you who are worshipped by the host of gods, the swift giver of rewards,
the spreader of knowledge conveyed through the Scriptures. The remover of the fear of continued
rebirth, the redeemer of sins, the one whose feet are resorted to for refuge by the righteous. Victory

Glory to you destroyer of poverty, voluptuous one, the giver of all results predicted by the
Scriptures, beloved of the world, surrounded by courtiers, the bestower of all forms of prosperity
such as vehicles, elephants, horses etc. The one who is worshipped by Vishnu, Brahma and Siva,
the one who gives respite from all forms of suffering to those who worship her feet. Victory to
you O Beloved of Krishna, Victory O Lakshmi of Elephants, please protect me.

ai khaga våhinî mohinî cakri±î råga-vivardhinî jñåna-maye |


gu±a ga±a våriddhi loka hitaiçinî sapta-svara-vara gåna-nutte ||
sakala suråsura deva munîßvara månava vandita påda-yuge |
jaya jaya he madhusûdhana kåminî santåna-lakßmî jaya pålaya mam || 5 ||

O rider of Garuda, enchantress, the wielder of the discus, the promoter of desire, the one who is
permeated by wisdom, the ocean of excellent qualities, the benefactrix of the universe, the one
who is praised by the seven musical notes. Your two feet are adored by all the gods, antigods,
sages, regents and people. Victory to you O Beloved of Krishna, Victory O Lakshmi of Progeny,
please protect me.

jaya kamalåsinî sad-gati dåyinî jñåna-vikåsinî jñåna-maye |


anudita marcita kuµkuma dhûsara bhûßita våsita bhågya-nutte |
kanaka-dhara stuti vaibhava vandita çankara deçika må±ya-pade |

Glory to the one who is seated upon the lotus, the giver of liberation, the purveyor of knowledge,
pervaded by consciousness. The unspoken, the cleanser, adorned with kumkum, and raiment,
the one conveyed by good fortune, the one who is praised by Kubera the god of wealth, the one
whose opulence is admired, the one who is well-regarded by Sankara. Victory to you O Beloved
of Krishna, Victory O Lakshmi of Victory, please protect me.

pra±ata sureçvarî bhåratî bhårgavi çoka-vinåçinî ratna-maye |


ma±i-maya bhûßita kar±a-vibhûßana çånti samåv®ta håsya mukhe ||
nava-nidhi-dåyini kali-mala-hårinî kåmya-phala-prada hasta-yutte |

O venerated Lady of the gods, O great actress, the dispeller of grief, the bejewelled one, bedecked
with precious stones and with earrings, the serene one with a smiling face. The giver of the nine
