President’s Report Next Meetings

We celebrated the end of the year with a fantastic party on THURSDAY 17 JANUARY 2019
Thursday night. We welcomed 80 guests, including our AG
Lorraine Nicholas, three Hon members, and guests Margot,
Mark, Gail and partners. At Beaumaris Rotary we know how to
have a jolly good time. The tables decorations looked beauti-
ful. Thanks to the VGC for the delicious Christmas feast, and
to Megan for the flashing hats. Debra’s delightful music enter-
tained us during the night, and Santa and his helper were wel-
come visitors, delivering Kris Kringle gifts to everyone. But the
highlight of the night was the Christmas Message from the
Board that brought the house down. It was a complete sur-
prise and cleverly put together by Bob McArthur. We ex- SEE MAP PAGE 5.
pressed our gratitude to Margaret Mognahan and the Victoria
Golf Club staff for the excellent service, the great food and the
friendly relationships that we have with them.
I would like to acknowledge the contributions from our mem-
bers and partners who have given their time and have support-
ed our many projects during the past 6 months. We give our
support in different ways. It could be jumping out of a warm
bed at 5 am to set up the BBQ and the marquees at the Farm-
ers Market, or getting hot and sweaty cooking the sausage
sizzle, or chatting to the shoppers and stallholders. It’s about
the many hours that our golf day team spent negotiating and
planning to secure The Bayside Charity Golf Day, a huge suc-
cess for both Beaumaris Rotary and the Black Rock Sports
Auxiliary. We are seen out and about in the local community
at events such as the Concourse Car Show, the Christmas
festivals at Beaumaris and Black Rock, and selling daffodils at

We will not be meeting at VGC until 24th January. In
the meantime, Kerrie G has booked a few tables for us
at 3193 in the Beaumaris Concourse for Thursday 3rd
January. Please contact Kerrie if you would like to join
us for a drink or some tapas. There will be another bar
meeting on 10th January, details to be confirmed, then
the Farmers Market on 12th January, and the Sandhurst
Twilight golf and BBQ on 17th January. A lovely social
start to the New Year before we get down to business.

Congratulations to the Graduating Class

of 2018

Last week, 21 extraordinary young people from

remote Top End and regional Victorian communi-
ties celebrated the completion of their MITS
year, cheered on by family members who travelled to
Melbourne for the occasion. In 2018 each of these
students has taken on the immense challenge of
schooling away from home, acted as ambassadors for
their communities, and enriched our community here
in Melbourne.

Again this year our students have grown and learned

through so many wonderful partnerships: they've told
their stories through stop-motion animation with Swin-
burne University's Marngo Designing Future program,
learned on-country with Indigenous rangers at the
Royal Botanic Gardens, tried their hand at cooking
new cuisines with food&desire and taken on new chal-
lenges with the Outdoor Education Group.

Through these experiences, and consistent classroom

learning, they are ready to step into their new Partner
Schools and continue their educational journeys in
Melbourne. Next year, we welcome four new Partner
Schools: Firbank Grammar School, Siena College,
Forest Hill College and Ruyton Girls' School.

Weekend away at Mirboo North.— 1—3rd Feb, 2019

Golf will occur, but others can come and enjoy fellowship, fun and exploration with Beaumaris Rotarians.
Quite a lot of accommodation is available if we book early. See below for instructions.

Trish Smyth will take the bookings for the Motel; these bookings are open on a first come first served basis. The rooms at the Motel
are already reserved.
For other members who wants to go that there are two other accommodation options and these options can be can booked direct.The
Hotel will be dearer than the Golf Motel, the Lovers Lane cottages are substantially dearer.
In summary the details are as follows;
Dates :
Accommodation booked Friday February 1st and Saturday 2nd February leaving Sunday the 3rd, 2019.
At the Golf Motel
Rates are $130 per person (twin share) for 2 nights’ accommodation and 2 games of golf plus a $15 voucher included for dinner in
the golf club on Friday night.
Carts are $35 for 18 holes. Only 11 carts available.
Non golfers the rate is $100 per person, i.e. $30 less than the glofers.
There are only 13 rooms available. 6 rooms with 3 single beds. 6 rooms with 1 queen and 1 single bed. 1 room with 1 queen and 3
single beds.
Bookings are through Trish.
Mirboo North Hotel
Has 5-6 rooms vacant at this stage. Apparently it is very close to the Golf Motel. $80 per double per night, clean basic rooms.
There are some rooms with single beds, one person in a single is $80 per night, if 2 singles are in a room it is $50 each per night.

These are several kilometers out of town. There are 4 of them, I have not checked bookings with them. The rate is $175 to $195 per
