Introduction

 Through ages, Man have became more innovative in discovering new

materials like composites by using cost & weight reduction techniques for
better performance in the field.

 Innovation is taking the lead in introducing composite materials.

 Polymer composites attract the attention in the view of low density, high
load bearing capacity and superior mechanical and tribological
characterstics .

Objctives

 Extensive work in this even reported.

 Synthesis and evaluation of polymer matrix ( PC & ABS Matrix) with

Kevlar short fibers (0.5mm length) and Naturally available Betal nut
powder (particle size 180 microns) and MoS2 as filler materials.

 Establishment of correlation of mechanical and tribological properties of

betel nut powder based composites.

 Data analysis, Interpolation and Publication

Methodology

Materials:

Polymer matrix

 Commercial grade Polycarbonate ( density 1.2g/cm3).

 Acrylonitrile Butadienestyrene[ABS] ( density 1.07g/cm3).

Reinforcement & filler

 Kevlar short fibers (0.5mm length) as reinforcement.

 Betal nut powder (180 microns) and MoS2 (1%) as filler materials.

Results and observations

 The tensile strength for 10% betal nut powder composition has increased,
but for 18% with of betal nut powder to the matrix the strength has
decreased and it has further decreased for 25% betel nut powder to the
matrix.

 The reason for the decrease in the tensile strength may be attributed to the
poor interfacial fiber and filler material interaction and addition
characteristics. This has to be proved using SEM tool has one would be able
to see the debonding of the fibre and the filler material.

 The same explanation holds good for the other two cases i.e compression
strength and flexural strength has similar trends in the value have been
noticed in these two cases as in the case of tensile strength.
