Introduction

Due to the increased population in the world and need for food security, the world is turning to pesticide
use so as to increase the yield of the crops and improve their lives. Increased use of chemicals has brought
about several risks to the environment and to the health of the users and other people. Use of pesticides
poses a risk because the user and the environment are exposed to dangers. For example people may get
poisoned by coming into contact with the pesticides during application, being near an area where
chemicals are being used, as traces in vegetables and other food staff and some due to self-poisoning.
While environmental pollution may happen due to pesticides which are released due to agricultural
activities, production ton activities in industries, combustion and spillages from chemical accidents (Henrik
selin, 2010). As pesticides plays a vital role in our food security and health, it is apparent that the risk they
pose is managed. According to the definition in FAO 2014, risk is defined as

Several studies have been conducted worldwide and they have revealed that pesticide risk is an issue
which need to be addressed. Pecticides have been classified into different categories depending on the
hazard they pose (WHO 2009)so as to help the users take nessesary precaution and for the regulators to
