Complete the following tasks and questions independently you may use your notes and
Website as a guide. Where possible you can use screen shots to present stages of
development.

What are the uses and benefits of using Illustrator? (include an understanding of vector
graphics)

Benefits and uses of illustrator it is to scale, provides helpful interface and works in vectors not
pixels.

What are the uses and benefits of using InDesign?

Reduced marketing costs in a business, time saving, the ability to visualise ideas quickly and
typography support.

What are the uses and benefits of using Photoshop? (include an understanding of pixels and
resolutions

Allows you to edit images for both print and web, gives the user complete control all photo
manipulations. Yu can edit videos as well as photos.

What are the limitations of each of the software?

The interface on all programs can be very overwhelming for new users. All Adobe software
comes at a price, and is relatively expensive. A lot of the tools don’t show up on the tool bar so
you have to know where to look for them.

Describe how you would create a triangle in Illustrator - simple step by step points.

Select the polygon toll. Click once on the artboard where you want the shape to appear. A
dialogue box will appear asking what radius you want the shape to be and how many sides you
want it to have. Enter 3 side with 60mm radius and click ok.

What are Pantone colours and how would you find your pantone colours in Illustrator?

Pantone colours are CMYK – cyan, magenta, yellow and black. To find them: select the
coloured area. Select window > colour and swatches. Colour box reveals your pantone
reference, for example: Pantone 2975C. C = coated. U = uncoated.

What is the difference between anchor points and paths?

A path is a black line that appears when you draw line in adobe illustrator. A path is made up of
a series of points called ‘anchor points’ and the line segments between these points. The
anchors points on either end of a path have control handles and these can be used to control
the direction of the curves path.

What colour mode and image resolution would you use for Print graphics?

CYMK and resolution to 300 dots per inch.

What colour mode and image resolution would you use for Online graphics?

RGB and for the resolution if an image is 72 pixels wide, then it will display as 1 inch big on a
monitor that is set to a resolution of 72 pixels/inch.

Text in adobe software is said to be justified is when it is aligned with both edges of a text
frame.

Photoshop? Why this way?

Select and mask, this is because its quick easy and actuate.

What is bleed and how can you set it up in InDesign?

In printing, bleed is printing that goes beyond the edge of where the sheet will be
trimmed. In other words, the bleed is the area to be trimmed off.

What key do you use to select a source point for the clone tool?

To use the clone stamp tool, hold down Option/Alt key and click to select a source point
to clone from. Release the Option/Alt key and move the cursor over to the point that you
wish to clone to, and click or drag with the mouse.

1 – I have learnt how to use Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. This will help next term when
using CAD.

future as it will speed up my design process.

Create a repeat pattern to celebrate 50 years since mankind landed on the Moon you may use
any software you feel comfortable using.

TASK TWO

Using InDesign create a double page spread and include a title, 2 columns of flowing text and
your pattern or illustration. The title and copy should be found on-line highlighting information
about the Moon Landing or its protagonists.
