5.0 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS

5.1 Choose cutter size as per Table I.

5.2 Ensure the cutter is sharp as per MEI 13.1.2.

5.3 Choose proper depth regulator nose as per Table II.

5.4 Setting Cutter Depth

. Screw on proper nose.

. Insert cutter into the spindle and tighten knurled nut.
. Loosen the set screw on the cutter with an Allen wrench.
. Set vernier dial on nose to zero.
. Lower the nose and cutter assembly onto the surface of the table.
. Tighten the set screw on the cutter.
. Raise the spindle.
. Adjust down feed rate (V8000 only) to 0.150
. Move vernier scale on nose to selected cutter depth.
. Adjust "Z" axis rate (V8000 only) to 0.150

5.5 Choose proper cutter speed as per Table III. Leave at 3 for ordinary engraving.

5.6 Apply a few drops of lubricant (as per Table III) onto the material.

5.7 For engraving machine operation and set-up procedures refer to appropriate machine
manual.

6.0 ENGRAVING OF NAMEPLATES

Perform the following standard procedures unless otherwise specified:

6.1 For text with one line only, center it.

6.2 For more than one line of text, center with equal line spacing.

6.3 Choose the stroke depth and stroke width (for the specified character spacing) from Table
I.

6.4 Condense or expand characters 70% minimum width in 10% increments up to 150%.

6.5 Character spacing will be automatically set by the machine.

6.6 Choose engraving mode; normal, reverse (depending on material engraved), or an axis
swap.

6.7 If French accents are required on uppercase characters, they can be engraved by
machine. Ensure there is an allowance for space on the nameplate, or use proper font.

6.8 Chip Collector needs to be turned on manually while engraving the nameplate. Use a soft-
bristle brush to clear away chips while engraving.
