Radial Fans manufactured by BHEL are single stage, double suction simply
supported centrifugal machines which can be used to handle fresh air as well as hot
gases in power plant applications.
In this type of Fans, the medium handled enters the impeller axially and after
passing through the impeller leaves radially. These fans are generally driven by
constant speed motors. The output of the fan is usually controlled by inlet dampers
and by varying the speed of the fan by suitable speed control device i.e. hydraulic
coupling(Voith Coupling).
1. Open the DMCW isolating Outlet & Inlet valves to the ID fan A sleeve
bearings.
2. Open the DMCW isolating Outlet & Inlet valves to the ID fan A Hyd.
coupling Coolers A & B.
3. Ensure that the alarm ‘IDF-A brg/ wdg temp/vib high’ is not appearing .
4. Ensure that the alarm ‘IDF-A DP across lub oil filter high > 0.6 ’ is not .
5. Check ESP A & B Inlet gates are open.
6. Check ESP A & B Outlet gates are open.
7.
8. Check the operation of the Hydraulic scoop and ensure scoop position
minimum.
9. Check ID Fan A Control damper is closed.
10.Check ID Fan A Inlet / Outlet gates are closed.
11.Check any one FD Fan discharge damper is open.
12.Check the 6.6 KV voltage is available.
13.Check the Breaker is healthy and DC control supply is ‘ON’.
14.Check the lockout switch is normal.
15.Check the OFF feedback of ID Fan A.
16.Check , no electrical tripping is present for ID Fan A
Initiate ID Fan A start command and verify:
ID FAN A:-
1. Select the ID FAN A sequence control in ‘MAN’ mode.
2. Issue the start command for ID Fan A O/L Gate Blower Motor.
3. Check the ‘ON’ feedback.
4. Keep open the ID Fan B Inlet / Outlet gates .
5. Increase the ID Fan A scoop .
6. Issue the start command for ID Fan A.
7. Check the ID Fan A will not start.
8. Decrease the ID Fan A scoop to minimum value.
9. Start ID Fan A & Check the ‘ON’ feedback .
10.Check the Ampere pegs up & drops down to no load Amps .
11.Open the ID Fan A Inlet / Outlet gates.
12.The ID Fan B Inlet / Outlet gates starts closing automatically.
13.ID Fan A Inlet flue gas pressure slightly reduces.
14.ID Fan A Outlet flue gas pressure slightly increases.
15.Check the ID Fan A Motor Winding temperatures & Bearing temperatures are
changing .
16.Check the ID Fan A Fan Bearing temperatures are changing (<70 degree).
17.Check the ID Fan A Fan Bearing vibrations are changing .
18.Raise the ID Fan A scoop position by 05%.
19.Check the position feedback (5%) .
20.Raise the ID Fan A Control damper position by 05%.
21.Check the Control damper position feedback.
22.Check the ampere increases .
23.ID Fan A Inlet flue gas pressure reduces .
24.Furnace pressure drops to -'ve side.
The Forced Draft Fan supplied to BKTPP is of Axial Flow Type with single stage
one. In the Axial reaction Fans(Type AP ),the major part of (about 80%) energy
transferred is converted into static pressure in the impeller itself. The rest of the
energy is converted into static pressure in the diffuser.
FD FAN # A / B START UP :
i. Preparation for start-up
Line up of the FD Fan A Auxiliaries (Lube Oil Pump):
i. Open the DMCW isolating Outlet & Inlet valves to the FD fan A Lub oil
coolers.
ii. Ensure that the alarm ‘FDF-A DP across lub oil filter high > 0.6 ’ is not
appearing.
iii. Ensure that the alarm ‘FDF-A ctrl oil pr. Low <6 ata ’ is not appearing . FD
Fan A control oil pressure is adequate (>8 ata).
v. Ensure that the alarm ‘FDF-A brg / wdg temp / vib high’ is not appearing .
vi. Check Fan blade pitch is operating from remote and at minimum position.
viii. All manual valves of Combustion Chamber wind box are in open condition.
- ‘FDF-A Oil pressure after filter < 5ata’ will appear at <5 ata and standby pump
start.
- ‘FDF-CTRL oil pr. normal‘ alarm appears at DAS (> 8 ata) ---- fan start
permissive
- ‘FDF lub oil pr. normal‘ will appear (>0. 8 ata) -- fan start permit.
- ‘FDF-CTRL oil pr. Low ‘ alarm appears at<6 ata.
