While doing these exercises, teacher will be looking at students to make sure everyone
has proper forms stretching and breathing.
Procedure
Before exercises, students will be asked in review about embouchure formation,
mouthpiece placement, and pressure.
Students will be given a starting pitch to match and the opportunity to buzz it.
o Starting on the tonic note, the teacher will demonstrate patterns and have
students echo on their mouthpieces.

Assessment
When students are echoing, I will be listening for pitch accuracy and watching for correct
fundamentals. Time permitting, I will ask various sections to buzz so I can assess them. During
this portion, I will also call on people to answer questions that I pose that address what just went
on in the last group to play.

Procedure
Teacher and students will sing scale, starting from Do and adding one note until entire scale
is sung (Do, Do-Re-Do, Do-Re-Mi-Re-Do)
Teacher will teach fingerings for each note
Students will repeat fingerings
Students will play new note with proper fingering
Students will then play scale learned so far from Do to newest note
Class will participate in a call/response exercise with teacher playing leaps used in rote
song from new scale and have class repeat.

Objective
Students will apply the C major scale and learn Happy Birthday in C major.
Procedure
Teacher will break up Happy Birthday into different phrases and engage students in a
call/response manner.
Teacher will then address fingerings for when playing the song on their instruments
Teacher will break up the song in separate phrases when teaching the students the song on
their instruments
Students will play the song

Hear sections individually and walk around the room and assess the students’ progress.
