“Peace is God's gracious giftto the
fallen world, Not one of us can claim
to deserve it. Not one of us is good
enough to merit the grace of peace...
‘Thus when on solemn occasions we
sing “on earth peace to people of good
will” we ought to keep in mind that
God's peace is not a reward granted
‘to people who possess good will
Father. itis the benevolence of God. @
‘goodwill git, a divine favor bestowed
‘on our unworthy selves.”

The revised translation, rom “peace
10 God's people on earth” to.“on earth,
peace to people of good wil, “reminds
us of the gratuitous nature of God's
love. Although we can add riothing
to God's glory, we raise our voices in
praise of the Triune God.

This setting ofthe Gloria may be sung
ints entirety by the congregation, as
is normally done in the Philippines,
Fin a antiphonet menmer, dat
, between the choir
congregation. Especially as the
new semting is being introduced, we
recommend that the congregation be
invited to sing the simple refrain, wile
the choir sings the more complex
verses. As the congregation becomes
‘mote familiar withthe revised text and
‘molody of the verses, they may sing
along with the choir. Nonetheless, the
“Glory to God” may still be sung in
antiphonal styl.
This songbook contains two versions
of “Glory to God.” Th first isthe
antiphonal version, sung with refrains
between verses, as recorded in the
album. The second is sung-through,
with the refrain sung only atthe start.
