O-G has something to prove

By Jim Naveau
jnaveau@limanews.com

OTTAWA— Ken Schri-

ner turned around to show
just how serious Ottawa-
Glandorf is about a turn-
around from last season’s
3-7 record.
On the back of the vet-
eran O-G coach’s shirt
there were just two words:
“Prove It.”
Those two words are the
theme for this season for
the Titans, who had put
together 22 winning sea-
sons in the 24 years before
last year and made 13 trips
to the playoffs in the 20
years before last year.
“My goal and our goal
for the season is prove it.
Prove that what we did last
year wasn’t normal for us.
Go out and prove this year
that you are a competitor
and you can go out and
compete for the league
and hopefully the playoffs.
That’s our goal,” Schriner
said.
“I think our kids
approached the off-season
that way and we’ve got a
good attitude,” he said. Don Speck | The Lima News

Familiar face looks to turn Bath around

By Tom Usher
sports@limanews.com

BATH TOWNSHIP – The Bath

administration has turned to a
former player to help pull the
Wildcats back to their old win-
ning ways.
Bryant Miller, a 2000 Bath grad
who played wide receiver/defen-
sive back for Jerry Cooper, takes
over the Bath program.
He’s very familiar with Bath’s
tradition and struggles of late,
as the Wildcats went 1-9 last
year, 0-9 in the Western Buckeye
League.
So far, he’s been happy with the
team’s early progress.
Bath has 60 players in the pro-
gram, 21 juniors and seniors and
39 freshmen and sophomores.
“Our kids are buying in as
quick as I could expect them
to buy in,” Miller said. “That’s
a compliment to our coaching
staff and our seniors. They really
haven’t experienced any winning
at all, and so they have a lot of
reasons not to buy in and invest.

credit to them and my assistant

Roughriders shooting for a WBL three-peat

Doug Frye is focused on
the present and preparing
for the team’s first game.
“I wouldn’t say it was a
distraction but it is good to
see progress and I wanted
to get things moving for-

great respect for coach
Baughman, overwhelming
respect, and love the field

every day. Wherever we

The Roughriders, who
won the Western Buckeye

and shared it in 2016, faces
replacing six players on
offense and six players on
defense. While the Riders
return a host of talent, Frey
said there is plenty of work
