Comtesse de Le Riviere and her mother were two of 64
women who the Nazis held prisoner in Ludenburg,
Germany. ALL the women were Jews and they were
the only two Christians. Their guarded prison was a
small cold stable. In those bleak surroundings her
mother announced, “We are going to have Christmas.”
Of course, their plan had to be kept secret.
They collected treasures from the barn and surround-
ing area. A long pole, pine branches from a wood pile,
a tin can was cut in the shape of the “star of Bethle-
hem.” Boughs were made from scrap cloth and yarn.
After air raids they would find long silvery threads to
use as tinsel. They took pieces of candles from the lan-
tern in the pig sty.
On Christmas Eve they lit the candles and the tree
came alive. The non-Christian women stood in awe as
her mother read the New Testament story of Christ’s
birth. Then softly they sang “Stille Nacht, Heilige
Nacht.”
Suddenly, the door swung open and the guard, Max
Wagner burst in.
Max: “What is this?”
Mother: “It is Christmas Eve. We are celebrating the
Holy Evening.”
Max: “You are Jews?”
Mother: “My daughter and I are Christians.”
Max: “You are no different. You have Jewish blood.”
Mother: “So did the first Christians. Christianity is a
matter of faith not race.”
Max Wagner furiously destroyed the tree and turned
off the lights.
Later in the darkness she writes:
“I stretched out my hand to my mother’s hand search-
ing from the bunk below. ‘We had our Christmas,’ she
whispered.” She concluded, “That evening we knew for
a certainty that Christmas, no matter how or with what
it is celebrated, is eternal.”
Whatever circumstances or with whomever you find
yourself this Christmas, remember to celebrate. His
name shall be called Emmanuel which means “God
with us.” That is reason to celebrate.

We are still in need of loving adults (males too) during Pre-
school Worship once a month at the 10:30am service. Cur-
rent needs are:
1st Sunday Bed Babies - 1 volunteer
2nd Sunday Toddlers - 2 volunteers
3rd Sunday Toddlers - 2 volunteers
4th Sunday Bed Babies & 2 yo - 2 volunteers
2nd Sunday Toddlers - 2 volunteers @ 8:10 service
Sunday Morning Teacher/Coordinator Meetings
Breakfast @ 8 AM, Room 313. This is a vital Team Meeting
that builds unity and provides insight into our growth. Our
upcoming meetings: Jan. 6th, Feb. 3rd, March 10
Basketball - K– 3rd season begins January 8th and contin-
ues each Monday through February 25th @ Eastern Hills
Baptist. 4th - 6th grade season will be played on Saturdays
@ True Divine in January and February. Practices are Sun-
days @ 4 pm on the Eastmont basketball court.
Serve Day - Friday, December 21st 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Begins @ Krispy Kreme and ends at Eastdale Mall. Free
donuts, bring a sack lunch. Free ice skating from 3:30 -
6:00 pm. We will be delivering Christmas gifts, serving our
community, and sharing hope with our homebound.
Parents and families welcome! 3rd grade and under are
welcome to serve with a loving adult.
Alabama Bible Drill Retreat @ Shocco Springs Jan. 25 - 26
Cost: $50 increases after January 6th

WINTER RETREAT
Students will travel to Tennessee, January 19-21,
2019. Registration for this event is closed. Remaining
balances are due Sunday, January 6. call Karen for inquir-
ies on amount owed.
DISCIPLE NOW WEEKEND
The dates for DNow are February 15-17. Cost for the
weekend is $40. Registration will begin in January.
SUMMER MISSION TRIP
June 23-29, 2019, the student ministry will travel to St.
Louis, Missouri, to partner with Street Reach St. Lou-
is. Registration will begin in January. Save the date for
now.
SUPER SUMMER ALABAMA
July 8-12, students may attend SSAL at Samford Universi-
ty. This camp develops students' faith with emphasis on
disciple making. To attend, students will be expected to
complete a list of prerequisites set forth by the SSAL staff
and our student pastor.

“Night of Christmas Worship” What a beautiful display
of Christmas worship! Many thanks and much gratitude
to each of the leaders within the Music and Worship
Ministry. Our leaders have poured in their time and ser-
vice to make this night possible.
WORSHIP CHOIR
Worship Choir rehearsals will resume January 2, 2019.
STUDENT CHOIR
Student Choir will resume January 6, 2019.
The Student Choir rehearses every Sunday at 4PM in the
choir suite. We are investing in the future of Eastmont
in worship and service to our Lord through music. Come
be a part and be in prayer for our next generation of
worship leaders!
KIDZ CHOIR
Kidz Choir will resume Sunday Night, January 6, 2019.
Our children are working hard on our program! We will
present PARABLELOOZA in the 10:30 service on Feb 3.
There is still time for your child to be involved! We meet
each Sunday night 4:45-6:15.
1st-6th Grade drop off at the basketball court, pick up in
the choir suite.

Memorial Rock Garden in Memory of Layla Hill
The rock garden is meant to encourage family and
friends who have lost a loved one. There’s still time to
donate. Please make the check out to Eastmont Baptist
Church and in the note, write ‘Memorial Rock Garden’.

Thursday Morning Bible Study
A new Bible study, Experiencing God by Henry Blackaby,
