What is D League?

Formally founded in 2015, Diplomatic League or commonly known as D League is the youth
engagement platform of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA). It aims to empower the youth
to become practitioners of diplomacy and global affairs. Moreover, D League believes that the
youth plays a huge role in advancing global development agenda. D League is administered by
a Secretariat composed of professionals and students in the field of diplomacy operating under
the close guidance and leadership of the Philippine Embassy to New Zealand and Pacific
(Wellington PE).

What is DLGS?

Diplomatic League Global Summit or DLGS is the largest Philippine based gathering of students
and young professionals who are studying or intend to pursue careers in diplomacy. It is the
highlight of D League’s calendar of activities that is annually held first week of April. The Summit
consists of a series of sessions and trainings on several relevant diplomacy topics. It is also
going beyond usual programs of International Relations (IR), e.g. Model United Nations (MUN),
Model ASEAN Meeting, and Foreign Policy Seminars by introducing more diplomacy relevant
programs, e.g. MUN 2.0., Barangay Diplomacy, D League UN Academy (DLUNA), Diplomatic
Career trainings, and D League Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Agenda. Furthermore,
DLGS promotes a solid partnership among individuals and institutions represented during the
Summit, and encourage participants to pursue “youth and volunteer ambassador” program of
Universal Diplomacy.

Who can join DLGS and D League in general?

Students and young professionals do not necessarily need to be diplomacy or international

affairs majors, all disciplines are welcome – only a strong interest in diplomacy is needed. Any
school may also affiliate with D League to develop programs and projects that will help their
students develop as potential diplomats.

Yes, we encourage delegates to wear smart casual to formal attire during the DLGS sessions
as common practice in protocol. Furthermore, attire for the ball is formal, i.e. long gown for
ladies and coat and tie/barong for gentlemen.

All necessary documents for the Summit will be provided by the D League Secretariat through
email. No position papers or anything of that sort is required from the participants.
Recommendations with regard to the outputs of the Summit are however encouraged to be
prepared by the delegates.

What to bring during the Summit?

In accordance to SDG13, DLGS2018 is paperless and encourages the participants to bring their
own device as tool to participate and reference for the documents that will be sent. Although we
discourage use of paper, delegates who wish to use may bring their own.
