This study took the title of Language Usage in the Indigenous Cultural Ceremony of
Manggarai Culture. In this research there are three problem formulation, that is 1) how is the
use of language in procession of Manggarai culture customary ?, 2) what is the meaning of
language use in traditional ceremony of Manggarai culture ?, 3) what are the equipments in
traditional culture ceremony of Manggarai culture? The purpose of this study is 1) to describe
the use of language in the procession of traditional wedding ceremony Manggarai culture. 2)
to know the meaning of the use of language in traditional ceremony of Manggarai culture. 3)
knowing the equipment in the Manggarai customs marriage ceremony.

This research is descriptive qualitative, that is describing data related to equipment,

procession, and meaning of language use in traditional marriage ceremony then will be
analyzed based on equipment, procession, and meaning. This research data is in the form of
text used in Ceremony of Indigenous Culture of Manggarai. Types of data used are oral and
written. Oral data comes from informants, while written data comes from library books that
support this research from the results of the analysis of the Indigenous Culture of Manggarai.

The results show that: (1) the wedding procession in this Manggarai culture, has its
own unique element present in the whole process with the highest achievement in a path of
the formation of household life called family; (2) the elemental meaning layer of language
usage contained behind the whole process creates a new meaning that is useful for the science
of language; (3) the equipment in a traditional Manggarai marriage ceremony is a physical
form of an object having the meaning of each object. This marriage equipment is a necessity
for both brides, with a very important culture to merelevansikan the reality of traditional
wedding procession Manggarai through the interpretation of the figures and (4) the entire
event contained in the wedding procession has a language element that shows that the
structure of language use through the layer Community of Manggarai. All of the above,
appears in every element of the issue chosen as the main focus of this research.

According to Manggarai customary marriage ceremony is the first step in running the
second marriage of the bridegroom then this step usually starts from the first meeting until
the completion stage. In the marriage ceremony there are some processions that must be
passed by the men in marriage women and vice versa.
