    The Tawny Owl is a relatively abundant owl species found in Slovakia. They have a large round head, short tail, and huge black eyes. They can be found in rusty or grey colors that help camouflage them in tree crowns. They live in old deciduous and mixed forests, as well as large parks, up to 1800 meters in altitude, rarely in pure coniferous forests.     They are relatively abundant species of the owls with a large round head and a
    short tail, which have huge black eyes. They can be found in two colourful
    shapes, either rusty or grey, with different colour transitions, which perfectly
    mask them when relaxing in the crowns of trees.

    Old deciduous and mixed forests, larger parks in the entire territory of Slovakia
    from the lowlands up to an altitude of 1800 meters are their home. They are
    rarely found in pure coniferous forests.

    For the nesting, they search for various hollow trees, lofts of various cottages,
    tree stands, but willingly also use the installed nesting boxes. Sometimes they
    occupy the nests of birds of prey.

    Since the tawny owls are very territorial and stay in their nesting place
    throughout the year, their food varies depending on its availability. They hunt
    small rodents, small birds, but also amphibians, insects and other
    invertebrates. They hunt their prey from a higher place or from a low search
    flight in the dark and at night.
