AMIGURUMI GIRAFFE

Skill Level: Easy/Beginner

You will need: Approx. 100g of DK yarn ABBREVIATIONS

3.5mm Crochet Hook sc - single crochet

Safety Eyes rep - repeat

Stuffing 2-sc inc - increase

Tapestry Needle 2-sc dec - decrease

Stitch Marker (scrap of yarn) sl st - slip stitch

st - stitch

ch – chain

yo - yarn over

Stitches and techniques used

Slip stitch

Insert hook in next st, yo and draw through all loops.

Single crochet

Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), yo, draw through both loops on hook.

Single Crochet Decrease [ 2-sc dec ]

Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop, (two loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, draw up a
loop (3 loops on hook), yo and draw through all 3 loops.
Changing color

Insert the hook in next stitch and draw up loop (2 loops on hook). Drop the first color, yo with new
color and draw through 2 loops on hook. Continue with the new color.

Magic adjustable ring

First make a loop with your yarn leaving 3" long tail. Insert hook in center of loop made, yo and draw
up loop. YO, pull through to make your first chain. (Do not count this as your first sc) Continue to
crochet over the loop and the yarn tail until you have the required number of scs for your first
round. For example, if the pattern calls for 6 scs, then sc 6 times into the ring. (Insert hook into the
center of the ring and draw up loop, YO and draw through both loops.)

When you're finished, pull the tail to close the ring.

Always move your stitch marker up at the end of each row as you will be working in continuous
rounds.

Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each row.

To make the stripey giraffe change colour every 3 rounds. For the arms and legs start the stripes
after you have done the hands and feet.

Now for the fun part......

HEAD

Starting at the nose

1. 6sc and tighten the loop, place marker (6)

2. [ 2-sc inc ] rep (12)

3. [ sc x 1, 2-sc inc ] rep (18)

4. [ sc x 2, 2-sc inc ] rep (24)

5. [ sc x 3, 2-sc inc ] rep (30)

6 - 10. [ sc in each st around ] (30)

CHANGE COLOUR

11 - 19. [ sc in each st around ] (30)

Place the safety eyes on now between rows 13 and 14 approximatley 6 stitches apart, making sure
they are exactly where you want them before you attach the backs as you will not be able to adjust
their position once they are fixed on.

Start to stuff now, you will add more just before you close.
Decrease rounds start here

20. [ sc x 3, 2-sc dec ] rep (24)

21. [ sc x 2, 2-sc dec ] rep (18)

Add extra stuffing, neatly sew the hole closed and fasten off.
EARS X 2

1. 6sc in magic circle, tighten the loop, place stitch marker

8. [ sc x 1, 2-sc dec ] rep (12)

Don't stuff the ears, Fasten off leaving a long tail. Flatten them and pinch the bottom ends together,
sew through the pinched ends ready to attach to the head ( see pic's below)
HORNS X 2

1. 6sc in magic circle, tighten the loop and place stitch marker

3 - 5. [ sc in each st around ] (12)

6. [ 2-sc dec ] rep (6)

Fasten off leaving a long tail. Stuff.

Attach ears and horns to head.

BODY AND NECK

Starting at the bottom and working up to the neck.

Starting at the foot and working up the leg.
