CURRICULUM MAPPING
Curriculum mapping is a process that allows for planning and
placement of topics addressed within a curriculum. Creating a
curriculum map requires identification of how and when content,
skills, and assessments occur. The process may help educators to
identify gaps or areas of overlap within a curriculum. This data can
then be used to guide course revision, with a focus on improving
and streamlining instruction and ensuring accurate and adequate
assessment.
This process is especially useful in ensuring that accredited
programs address all necessary educational objectives, including
proper instruction and assessment of required topics and
objectives.

The instructional designer will consult with the Occupational Therapy Assistant
program faculty at American Career College to facilitate the process of creating a
curriculum map and identifying necessary changes to the curriculum and courses.
In the consulting role, the designer must be familiar with the accreditation standards
that relate to overall program objectives, as well as the requirements for demonstrating
compliance with them. The designer will be responsible for guiding the faculty through
group review of the curriculum and accreditation standards, then will oversee individual
identification of instructional methods and assessment strategies by each faculty
member responsible for a course. The designer will then develop a list of
recommendations to improve accreditation compliance. These recommendations may
include changes to the overall curriculum to ensure appropriate placement of the
standards, but will focus on changes to the instruction and assessment of required
educational objectives.
