TRANSPORT IN LIMA
Metro 1

This is the quickest way to get around the eastern sector of

the city, which consists of 11 districts, and there are 26

underground stations throughout the eastern sector of Lima.

The only way to use the metro service is to buy a card at any

metro station. After buying the card, it must be recharged at

any self-service machine in the station. To validate the

entrance, the card must be placed on one of the turnstiles'

readers, then the destination is located, accessing the

correct platform and finally getting on the train.

The Metropolitan Bus

It can be as fast as the metro to move from south to north in

the city and transports more people than the metro. The
1
metropolitan bus offers two types of service, regular and

express; the express being faster than regular, as it stops

only at stations with higher user demand. The only way to

use the subway, like the metro, is to buy a card at any

subway station and recharge it. You can recharge the cards

in any recharging machine found in the stations and in

authorized warehouses or pharmacies.

Minibus

The minibus is the most popular transport in Lima, it can be

fast if there is not too much traffic. The way to use the minibus

is just to stop at some authorized stop and buy a ticket with

cash when you get on the minibus. Some of the minibuses

operate 24 hours a day, so they can be used late at night.

Travelling in a minibus is very common in people's daily lives.

2
Taxi

The taxi in Lima is more expensive than the minibus, but

much more comfortable and faster than it. Normally you tell

the driver where you want to go before you get into the taxi

so that it will set its fare. Before getting out of the taxi you pay

the fare in cash. Currently there are many mobile taxi

applications such as Uber, TaxiBeat or Easy Taxi; these taxi

services are more expensive than ordinary taxis in Lima, but

much safer.
