General Instructions: Maximum Marks: 80

(i) The question paper comprises of five sections – A, B, C, D and E. You are to attempt all the
sections.
(ii) All questions are compulsory.
(iii) Internal choice is given in sections B, C, D and E.
(iv) Question numbers 1 and 2 in Section-A are one mark questions. They are to be answered in
one word or in one sentence.
(v) Question numbers 3 to 5 in Section- B are two marks questions. These are to be answered in
about 30 words each.
(vi) Question numbers 6 to 15 in Section-C are three marks questions. These are to be answered
in about 50 words each.
(vii) Question numbers 16 to 21 in Section-D are 5 marks questions. These are to be answered in
about 70 words each.
(viii) Question numbers 22 to 27 in Section- E are based on practical skills. Each question is a
two marks question. These are to be answered in brief.

Section - A

Q.1. The energy released during cellular respiration is immediately used to synthesize a
molecule called.

Q.2. A group of bacteria, found in human intestine, whose presence in water indicates
contamination by disease-causing microorganism. Identify the group.

Q.3. Why is sodium, kept immersed in kerosene?

Q.4. In what ways is binary fission different from multiple fission?

Q.6. Translate the following statements into chemical equations and balance them.
(a) Hydrogen sulphide gas burns in air to give water and sulphur dioxide.
(b) Barium chloride reacts with aluminum sulphate to give aluminium chloride and
a precipitate of barium sulphate.
(c) Potassium metal reacts with water to give potassium hydroxide and hydrogen
gas.

Q.7. (a) How is plaster of Paris chemically different from gypsum? How are they
interconverted? Write one use of plaster of Paris.
(b) State the relation between hydrogen ion concentration of an aqueous solution
and its pH.
Provide the formula to show the relation between hydrogen ion concentration an
pH.

(a) Why rain water conducts electricity and distilled water doesn’t?
(b) Why is that acids don’t have their acidic behavior in the absence of water?

(b) State the mirror formula and its magnification.
(c) Using the same, find the distance at which an object should be placed for getting

One student uses a lens of focal length +50 cm and another of −50 cm. State the
nature of each lens and find their powers. Which of the two lenses will always give a
virtual, erect and diminished image irrespective of the position of the object?

Q.21. Draw a labelled diagram of an electric motor and explain its principle and working.
What is the function of a split ring in an electric motor?

(a) What is electromagnetic induction?


(b) What are the various methods of producing induced current.
(c) A coil of insulated copper wire is connected to a galvanometer.
What will happen if a bar magnet is:

(i) Pushed into the coil,


(ii) Withdrawn from inside the coil,

Q.22. What is observed when a solution of sodium sulphate is added to a solution of


barium chloride taken in a test tube? Write the equation for the chemical reaction
involved and name the type of reaction in this case.

Q.23. People use a variety of methods to wash clothes. Usually after adding the soap, they
'beat' the clothes on a stone, or beat it with a paddle, scrub with a brush or the
mixture is agitated in a washing machine. Why is agitation necessary to get clean
clothes?

‘O’ of a convex lens of focal length 10 cm. Draw a ray diagram to find the position
and size of the image formed. Mark optical ‘O’, principal focus F and height of the
image on the diagram.

OR

Two students perform an experiment with mirrors, one with a concave mirror and
one with a convex mirror. The image formed by a concave mirror is real, while that
of the convex mirror is virtual. Where the screen should be placed in both cases?
