Using This Booklet
Hello Member!
This is your performance tracker booklet. You will use this to track
all of your media activities and behaviour, to eventually form a
media portfolio by the time you are prepared to leave our team.
We have also added multiple helpful pages for your convenience,
such as notes pages.

The administrative team and your mentors will regularly update


this booklet to show that you have been able to create projects
both individually and as a team.
While this does not count towards a formal qualification, it does
give you the evidence needed to advance in media education.

From this point forwards, you must hand in this booklet at least
once every half term so that it can be marked and evaluated by
the admin team. Otherwise, you will not have the evidence that
you need.

You will need to attend at least once a week at break, lunch or


after school.

Please keep this booklet safe and have fun in media!

Our Statement
At St. Teilo’s Media, we’re passionate about media.

We love teaching media because millions of people rely on it


every day – from watching TV to powering the world’s largest
media networks such as Facebook and YouTube.
We enjoy seeing our students develop their ideas from the
drawing board straight through to the big screen.

We want you to feel the same about media as we do, so be


enthusiastic and ready to learn.
We’re still learning ourselves, so be prepared, concentrate and
participate on the journeys we will take.

St. Teilo’s Media Department: How We Operate
Strike System
The “Strike System” is designed to deter members from resorting
to inappropriate behaviour that may cause interruption or danger
to themselves or the team.

Each team member has a clean card every year, however the
points can add up during the year and a detention or removal may
be issued.

Each member has one warning (marked W) every term.


If you receive 2 strikes within one term, you will be banned from
media for 2 weeks.
If you receive 5 strikes throughout the whole year, you will be
banned from media indefinitely – unless your performance tracker
booklet (this one) has shown that you are capable of completing
work to a high standard and high quality. The directors will have
the final say over membership.

Note, if you are marked and one event can be categorised as


multiple marks, you will only be striked or warned once.

All strikes and warnings are issued at the directors’ discretion, as


some behaviour can be considered more serious than others.

We also have direct links with achievement leaders within the


school, who may decide to call your parents or guardians
regarding your behaviour and progress in media.

RESOURCES

What resources are available to me?


Good question.
You will be given:
A workbook.
This includes a lot of revision material
and should be your first call if you don’t
know something. It also has essential
training resources so that you get to
know how to use the equipment.
It has a selection of questions for you to
answer to improve your knowledge, and
at the back it has a template pack which
you can photocopy for your own use.

A performance tracker.
This will mainly be kept in school by the
directors, however this document is very
important. It is the evidence document
you will be able to use in further
education, and it holds information about
your behaviour, attendance and the
quality of your work.

We also have additional templates and information sheets you can use,
as well as information booklets. These are available upon request.

Resources & Learning
Projects per Year
Every year, we expect our students to complete the following:

COMPULSORY CHOOSE ONE

1 analysis activity from the workbook


• 1 photography activity outside of school
• 1 independent video project outside of school
• 1 editing project outside of school

• Projects assigned to you (minimum 3 per year)


• Take part in group projects (minimum 1 per year)

• Complete activities from the workbook


OPTIONAL

• Try exam past papers (in the workbook)


• Participate in media representative events (e.g. open
days)
• Help with the administrative running of the department

If you feel that you cannot complete this, please consult your
mentor. They will give you advice and we will be able to consider
your next steps moving forward.

If you do not complete what is expected of you, you may be


considered for removal from media for not participating regularly.
