Systems of linear equations through substitution:

2 equations: y = -5x+2, y = 5x-4. y=y, so that means -5x+2=5x-4, solve for x, then after this,
plug solved x into one of the original equations to find y.
At the end you should have x=(number), and y=(number)
Systems of linear equations through elimination:
2 equations: 6x + 8y = -8, -3x – 6y = 6, pretty much, multiply one of the formulas until one of
the coefficients is the same (x or y), doesn't matter if it's negative or positive, in this case,
we go over the negative, so to get the second equation to align with the first equation, you
have to multiply the entire thing by 2, notice the 6x and -6x match on both, so now you add
the entire equation together, each of the coefficients separately, and remember to keep the
sign with the number, 6x+ (-6x) = 0, 8y+ (-12y) = -4, and -8 + 12 = 4, now you have the
equation -4y = 4, solve for y, and then solve for x using y, same as before.
Standard form: ax2+bx+c (3x2+2x+13), refer to things as A, B, or C through this.
Zero product property: if a*b = 0, then either a=0 or b=0,
(x-3)(x+1)=0 means x-3=0 or x+1=0, so x = 3 or x = -1 respectively are solutions, zero
product property can also be used like 3x(x-4) = 0. 3x= 0 or x-4 = 0, factoring this way is
easier if x is on all terms, with no C.(2x2+3x = 0)
Diamond method:
Useful if X does not appear in all terms (there is an A, B, and C).
What 2 numbers multiply to get the top, and add to get the bottom number?, then
put x in front of both numbers, and try to simplify, if they have common factors,
divide them out.
Completing the square: (painful, very very painful), good if its f actorable, monic, and B is
even.
Pretty much split the equation so that you can solve part of it with isolation.
X2 + 2x -13 = 0 -> x2 +2x +1 -14 = 0 -> (x+1)2 -14 = 0.
Actual completing the square:
Put equation into A + B = C format, take half of B, and circle it, square the circled number
and then box it, add boxed number to both sides of the equation, then simplify, but don't
take the C from the left side and put it on the right side, now make an equation (x+(circled
number))2 =Right side on simplified equation, and solve by isolation. Do note that A Must be
1 in order for this to work, if it's not 1, divide everything
by A so that it is.
Quadratic formula: Good if its not factorable, and Non
Monic.
Discriminant:If b2-4ac turns out to be positive, there are
2 real solutions, for the quadratic formula, just write the answer same as any other in
chapter 2, (x = 2, OR x=-3)
If b2-4ac turns out to be negative -> no real solutions, and stop there. If b2-4ac turns out to
be 0,-> one real solution,x=-b/2a
