• Participated in ‘Art that Survives Uganda’, an art exhibition of work by Makerere


Community of Artists made before, during and after Amin’s regime. Held at the Africa
Center, Covent Garden, London. 1985.

• Staged a Solo art exhibition entitled ‘Exhibition 1993’ at the Makerere Art Gallery, Kampala
from 13th to 24th April 1993 to promote cultural tourism in Uganda.

• Participated in the Art Africa Group Exhibition on the occasion of 7th Pan African Congress;

• Staged a solo Photo exhibition of historic buildings of Uganda at the launching of the website

• Appointed member of the Planning Committee of the International Workshop on Capacity


Building and Institutional Development in Eastern Africa for Built Heritage Conservation
which took place in Uganda in December/January 2001/2002. The Workshop drew
conservators from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan, Kenya, Uganda and Djibouti under auspices of
UNESCO and the World Heritage Center (WHC).

• Participated in World urban Forum III in Vancouver, Canada from 19th to 23rd June 2006. At
the Forum, I participated as a rapporteur for Swedish International Development Agency
(SIDA) and presented a paper to the SIDA World Urban Forum cocas titled: The Urban
Shelter Situation Analysis in Uganda: Case Study – Kampala City. (See list of publications).

Committee Member for examination process of Ms. Solome Kweyunga. Ms. Kweyunga
presented her doctoral research proposal titled ‘The Conflict between Tradition and
Modernity in the Domestic Urban Kitchen Design’ on 3rd February 2009 to the Committee.

• Appointed in February 2009 to Makerere University’s Faculty of Technology Viva Voce
Examination Panel for Mr. Godfrey Mwesiga. The said candidate defended his dissertation
titled ‘Effects of Land Tenure on Physical Planning in Uganda: A Case of Kampala City’ in
partial fulfillment for award of the degree of Master of Phy. Planning, Makerere University.

• Appointed as member of Examiners Panel for the Viva Voce for Mr. Jjuko Elias Yasin
for his Masters Dissertation titled: “Acceptance of Physical Planning in the Provision of
Infrastructure for Social Services”. The Viva Voce was held on 30th July 2009 in the Faculty
of Technology Boardroom.

• Appointed in April 2009 to the bench of nineteen International Jurors of the final round of
the 2009 International Graduate Students’ Architectural Design Competition for a prison
under the theme ‘Prisoned: Architecture of Incarceration’. Organized by the Socio Design

to develop a philosophy on what they feel imprisonment is or should be, and create an

explore course design and curriculum development for built heritage conservation &
Management education adaptable to developing countries. During the Fellowship I also

Special Assignments

• March 2000: Appointed as a member of the Uganda National Committee for the
Nomination of Kasubi Tombs on the World Heritage list so as to prepare the technical file for
nomination of the said property, co-sponsored by the World Heritage Center (Paris) and
UNESCO. Kasubi Tombs are now a World Heritage Site inscribed on the List on 16 th
December 2001.

• Elected as President of Lund University International ‘Conservation & Management of


Historic Buildings 2004/05 program’ Alumni, in September 2004 at Lund University, Lund
City, Sweden.
• Appointed by the Dean, Faculty of Technology and the School of Graduate Studies in April
2007 to research, process and provide ‘Baseline Data on the Faculty of Technology to Inform
Makerere University Research Policy and the Intellectual Property Rights Management
Policy’. The Data was presented to the Director, School of Graduate Studies for onward
transmission to Senate.
