SCOPE OF COUNSELING

 Counselling is necessary in almost every aspects of a persons life - cognitive, behavioral systematic,
social, psychological, and others.
 It is also applied to individuals , family , groups.
 Individual counseling, many issues are covered such as depression, sexual abuse, anxiety, gender,
relationship, spirituality, ideology, adolescent, issues loss, anxiety, stress, vocation, studies and others.
In terms of family counseling, issues include divorce, family dynamics, transition in life, mis
communications, jealousy, money matters, parenting marriage and others.

4757-15 SCOPE OF PRACTICE FOR LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS

Licensed Professional Counselors may for a free, salary, or other considerations


1. Afford counseling services to individuals, groups, organizations, or the general public comprising of :
application of clinical counselling principles, methods, or procedures to assist individuals in realizing
effective personal, social, educational, or career development and adjustment.

2. “apply clinical counseling principles, methods, and procedures means an approach to counselling that
emphasizes the counselor’s role in systematically assisting clients through all of the following : assessing
and analyzing emotional conditions, exploring possible solutions and developing and providing treatment
plan for mental and emotional adjustment or development. It may include counseling, appraisal, consulting,
supervision administration and referral.

3. Engage in the diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders when under the supervision of
a professional clinical counselor, psychologist, psychiatrist, independent marriage and family therapist, or
independent social worker.

4. Provide training supervision for students and registered counselors trainees when services are within
their scope of practice, which do not include supervision of the diagnosis and treatment of mental and
emotional disorders,

CORE VALUES AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES OF COUNSELING


 The way we percieve or view things, people events, and our environment, is influenced by our values.
 Values indicate what we believe in - what are important to us.
 We behave in certain ways because this is what our value tell us.
 Gibson and Mitchell (2003), pointed out that these individuals who do not know their values usually
get involved in destructive, ferocious, and significant actions.
 In counsellong , it is essential that the counselor’s comprehend the values of their client’s in order
to accompany them appropriately.
