The Romanesque Revival in America was inspired in part by
Sculpture
the medieval European style known as Romanesque,
Brick popular in Europe during the 11th and 12th centuries as a
revival of earlier classical Roman forms. The Romanesque
Brick
Wall Revival in America, then, actually constitutes a second
distinctive revival of classical Roman architecture.

PART I - CODES ANALYSIS CHARTS
This Code is adapted in all 50 States, the NEC is the
Electrical NFPA 70® -National Election Code® benchmark for the safe electrical design, installation,
and inspection to protect people and property from
electronical hazard.
NFPA 111 Standard on Stored Electrical This Standard covers performance requirements for
Energy Emergency and Standby Power emergency and standby power systems providing an
Systems alternate source of electrical power in buildings and
facilities in the event that the normal electrical power
source fails. Systems include power sources.
,
PART II – RESEARCH ESSAYS
TOPIC 1: Discuss how important codes are in residential design. Explain how knowing this information will
specifically advance your future application of code factors while designing. Provide at least two examples.
The purpose of building codes are to provide the minimum standards and requirements for
the design and construction, demolition, alteration or modification of any new or existing
structure to protect and preserve the public safety, and general well-being. State building
codes are an important key factor in keeping occupants of a structure as safe as possible.
Failure to adhere to building code, can at a minimum cause the general contractor or
owner of a property to be fined by the state and/or local government. At a maximum not
adhering to building code could lead to demolition of the building if not compliant. Not
adhering to codes when building could easily lead to injury of a person, or loss of life. There
are several phases in construction: the 1st phase is submitting plans to the city building
department, and these plans must be approved before you even break ground. Once the
plans have been approved, then there is a list of permits that must be pulled. After each
stage of construction, you must schedule an appointment and have an inspector come to
the build site and approve the work that has been done. After the inspector approves the
work, then construction may continue. This process goes on until the final inspection, and the
general contractor receives the Certificate of Occupancy (CO).
TOPIC 4: Identify the code organization followed in your locality for residential buildings. Select a topic from
Part I and compare the factors of the researched codes to the codes for new construction in your own
locality. Discuss the reasons for any similarities or differences.
The NFPA 70® Code® is adopted in 50 State, it was first published in 1879. The code is the standard
for electrical installation, inspection, and use to protect people from avoidable electrical hazard.
There have been 15 code revisions since1974, the year the average American home was built. The
National Electrical Code (NEC) is updated every 3 years to include the latest in proven safety
technology. All the codes are familiar, they are implicated and adopted for the protection of the
publics. The Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission has officially, the adopted the 2014
National Electrical Code, NFPA as part of the Commission’s Authority for the 16 Delaware Code S.
6604. All contractors and electricians must be licensed by the state Board. Local jurisdictions may
require additional licensing. A licensee under this chapter shall perform all electrical services or
electrical work in accordance with the standards established in the National Electric Code (NEC)
as adopted by the Delaware Fire Prevention Commission and in any applicable local building
code. The version of the NEC applicable to a project is determined by the Delaware Fire
Prevention Commission. To perform “electrical services” or “electrical work” means to perform,
maintain, troubleshoot or supervise any electrical work covered by the National Electrical Code
(NEC) as adopted by the Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission which may include but is not
limited to the installation, erection, or repair of any electrical conductor, molding, duct, raceway,
conduit, machinery, apparatus, device, or fixture for the purpose of lighting, heating, or power in
or on any structure or for elevators, swimming pools, hot tubs, electric signs, air conditioning,
heating, refrigeration, oil burners, solar electrical work, generators, windmills and overhead and
underground primary distribution systems.
TOPIC 4: Identify the code organization followed in your locality for residential buildings. Select a topic from
Part I and compare the factors of the researched codes to the codes for new construction in your own
locality. Discuss the reasons for any similarities or differences. (CONT.)

ANSWER
1) THE ELEMENT THAT CAN BE MODIFIED IS THE WIDTH AND THE LENGTH OF THE ROOM, I SHOULD OF BUILT THE ROOM A
LITTLE BIGGER TO GIVE THE FURNITURE A LITTLE MORE SPACE.
2) THE PLEASING PROPORTION IS THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE BED, THE DOOR WAS PERFECTLY DESIGN TO FIT
THE SIZE OF THE ROOM.
3) THE SCALE PLAY A BIG ROLE IN THE MASS OF FURNITURE ARRANGEMENT, BECAUSE IT ‘S A GREAT WAY TO GIVE EVERYONE AN
IDEA OF WHAT SIZE FURNITURE SHOULD BE USE IN THE SPACE, WHERE THEY SHOULD BE PLACE, AND CREATING A GREAT
MOVEMENT SPACE FOR THE CLIENTS.
4) THE DOMINANT FORM IS THE BED AND THE DRESSER, THE BED AND THE DRESSER ARE WELL BALANCE TOGETHER DESPITE THE
SIZE OF THE ROOM AND THEY’RE BOTH ARE PLACE IN THE GREAT AREA. THE SUBDOMINANT IS THE TWO SMALL NIGHT STANDS,
THEY ARE JUST EXTRA AND THEY CAN BE WITHOUT FOR MORE SPACE.

JUSTIFICATION
Mr. & Mrs. Lannister Lives in this English period building in Boston, MA. Mrs. Lannister retired
as a school teacher and her husband is soon to retired as a police officer. They enjoy spending
times with their grandchildren and collecting old movies and books. Their residence reflects on
their personalities, starting with the pieces of furniture, color pallet for the walls and
accessories. They wanted to make sure a lot of the things that they incorporated into their
home were kids friendly and easy to clean, because of their grandchildren. The walls were
painted with balance and neutral colors, they love the warmth and cozy feeling that the colors
bring into the home. The furniture was carefully chosen for each room with the thoughts of the
wall colors and accessories. They really wanted to include a few pieces of Hepplewhite antiques
collections in their home for that elegant and sophisticated look. Simplicity was always their
main priority for their home. After retirement and moving to this smaller English period
building the Lannister family just wanted to feel ready to go, and not worry about much to do in
their new home.
The schematic plan helps to give me and the clients an idea of where space areas will be, where
furniture and accessories will go. Space is one the important part of designing a residence,
because you want to make sure that everyone that step into the home feel comfortable to
move around and not feeling cluttered.
Reflecting
Reflect on what you have learned in this class and discuss at least three concepts or topics that you feel
will be most helpful to you as you continue your studies in interior design and residential planning.
Discuss the tools or exercises in this course that you feel will help you in marketing your skills as you
prepare to apply as a candidate at an entry-level position.
Reflecting in what I learned in this class, will help me with my business as an interior designer. I had a
similar class to this one and it just gave me more of a revision to what I’ve learned from those previous
classes. It is so easy to forget certain concept. Having this class gave me much more of understanding,
on the topics or concept I didn’t understand on my previous courses. I really didn’t like using Auto CAD
but using it in this class show me my skills, even when the courses are accelerated courses. The
residential coding was very important to me, I learned a lot about my own states code, it makes me
curious to learn more about building codes, public accessibilities and zoning. Becoming an interior
designer will help me to learn more about the older historic buildings and designs in the 19th centuries
to the present, and how I can be creative.
