~Technovizing Education
Introduction:
It was nearly the end of January, and the weather was chilly outside and
leaving the warm and gentle
hands of sleep was agonizing.
I started later that morning for
my school. Reaching the
school was another herculean
task as I had to tread across a
pair of fields, navigate through
a stream and a walk of
another mile would finally lead
me straight in front of the main
gate of a small dull looking
building which, as you might have guessed, was my school. I was never
pleased with the infrastructure of my school but in any case, I needed to
attend it because it was the only one in the tehsil. However, after crossing all
those, I arrived at the school. The building seemed so frail that it may be
blown away by a gusty wind. I even thought that the school was long
forgotten by the authorities because its condition worsened every day. At
last, I found myself standing at the door of my classroom.
My encounters with the reality of the education system of India made me
completely lose my interest in my studies. I desperately needed to study the
subjects which interested me, but the absence of course flexibility kept that
door shut for me. But I had to excel in my board exams, and maybe then I
could get admission in a better school to pursue my interests. I studied hard
and made sure to beat everyone in every test and olympiad. I was at the top
of my class till the preliminary examinations. But in the final examinations, by
bribing the school administration, the tehsildar had his boy stood first. This
served as the death blow for me, and I was utterly devastated. (Highlighted
parts represent places to add stats).
PROBLEM
STATEMENTS
2. In this tech-savvy world of ours, do you think one can go on without
knowing how to use a computer? Interestingly, according to the 8th All
India School Education Survey (AISES), a mere 36.7% of the schools of
our nation provide the students with a privilege of learning computer
sciences. At this rate, the country’s future looks insecure and adhering to
the current curriculum we cannot possibly solve this problem. The
education system and the children it affects are all in peril, do you think
you can come up with a feasible solution?
3. The world that is around us, the world we live in, the world we study
about in our institutions, is in 3D. But have you ever pondered how are
we going to apply our knowledge when we are taught about it in 2D? It is
certain that if we are not able to visualize the concepts we have been
preached about, all we have learned surmounts to nothing. That’s what
almost every student fails to do at some point in his life which leads to
much unnecessary chaos and confusion. What do you think, we, the
brightest mind of our country, can do to solve this problem with the help
of technology?
4. India has a tremendous wealth of resources, but we need adequate
technology to put them to their best use. The same stands right for the
children of our country. We have enough brainpower but lack the quality
education to harness that power and put them to good use. Many of
them live in remote, inaccessible areas where they don’t have access to
adequate living conditions much less quality education. So now you can
think what might be the condition of our 68.8% population. Children are
bound to live there because their parents can’t afford to move to cities.
The whole country suffers from this because highly potent young minds
are left uneducated. Don’t you think we can use technology to find a
solution for this problem?
5. Where do you think you would stand globally (when you were in
school) if you were to compete in various academic disciplines? You
might even struggle leaping over the language barrier. Just think how
many students are there in country who are not taught things to such an
extent that they can be made competent enough. Like this, many courses
are not taught or left incomplete in schools and even colleges because
they don’t have access to newer and advanced technologies needed to
continue the course even if they have enough financial sources. Due to
this the students of our country are unable to compete on a global level.
For the pride of our nation, what solution you can think of to increase our
access to better technology?
Case studies pose as the best walkthrough for the people to channelize their thoughts and ideologies
from the point of view of the concerned lever pullers, and assist them in having a better insight into the
variety of problems to design better lines of action for various issues like the problem with education. With
problems like lack of basic education, massive school dropouts, lack of professional education etc. The
event will provide an opportunity for the participants to relate to the various situations, which are not
readily experienced by many of us. So put your thinking caps on and explore the world around you.
