Smart-UPS efficiency rating earns prestigious EPA mark
These days, it can be difficult to tell whether a product is as
“eco-friendly” as its advertisements say it is. Without concrete
industry standards, it’s tough to separate fact from fiction.
The reliable standard for energy efficiency
Thanks to ENERGY STAR, a joint program of the US Environmental
Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy, we now have
a trusted industry benchmark for energy efficiency. The program
rigorously tests products and buildings on their energy performance,
and only the top 25 percent of the market qualifies for the program.
ENERGY STAR recently introduced its Uninterruptible Power Supply
(UPS) program. In order to qualify for the ENERGY STAR program,
our UPS units had to achieve average efficiencies of greater than
96.7 percent. Fortunately, this wasn’t much of a stretch — we’ve
been making ultra-efficient UPS units for years.

Smart-UPS leads the way
APC by Schneider Electric’s new Smart-UPS is the most intelligent
UPS unit in its class. It comes equipped with a green operating
mode, which de-energizes components when unneeded without
sacrificing an ounce of reliability. Using less power also helps to
keep the UPS unit’s internal temperature down, which extends
battery service life.
In fact, the estimated energy savings for the total amount of
Smart-UPS units manufactured and installed in one year is equal
to nine days of output from the Hoover Dam, or about $10 million
in utility costs!
Although we’ve always led the way in energy efficiency, qualifying
for the ENERGY STAR program is a welcomed affirmation of our
continued commitment to helping consumers and businesses alike
cut energy costs at every turn.
