This provides a picture of the entrance of a concentration camp, with the German phrase,

"Arbeit Macht Frei." This phrase is at the entrance of numerous camps, meaning, "Work

will set you free."

This website provides background information on Auschwitz, explaining how it was

among the biggest of concentration camps, and a more common place for Jews to be

executed in gas chambers, crematory ovens, and other barbaric deeds.

This website is based solely on Oskar Schindler. It also explains how Emilie Schindler

assisted Oskar in his rescue of the Jews. For instance, to collect money to keep the

"Schindler Jews" safe, Emilie sacrificed many of her luxuries, like gold and jewelry, to
instead purchase food, clothes and medicine for the Jews. She and her husband set up a

secret hospital in the back of the factory with medical equipment off the black market,

and there, Emilie cared for the sick.

This site, published in 2015, provides a biography of Schindler's life, from early

childhood to death. He was born in 1908, east of Germany, and was popular in school.

Schindler excelled and drinking and philandering for all his life.

In this interview, Eva Lavi, the youngest Schindler Survivor, shares her experience in the

holocaust at age 6 and allows me to understand what an opportunity Schindler gave to

"his Jews." She expresses her horror at seeing her two cousins shot by soldiers. "She

remembers her father telling her to swallow a spoonful of cyanide-better than death at the

hands of Nazis-only to have her mother object at the last moment"

This interview with Leon Leyson, Leon describes the kindness and compassion Schindler

directed towards his family. He remembers Schindler allowing him to work in different

parts of the factory, so to hone his skills as a craftsman, and keep him from getting

bored. In addition, he remembers seeing Schindler with his father saying, "It's all going

to be alright." Later, when the Jews in the factory were to be transported to Poland, and a
cart of female workers and children were going to be sent to Auschwitz, he recalls

Schindler bribing the officials to release the women and children, whom among them was

Leon's mother and sister.

involved in to save Jews. He bribed officers and drew up a list of people of about 1000

Jews. This helps me understand how Oskar Schindler became known as the savior of

Jews.

This site, provides an overview of Oskar Schindler's life, from early childhood to death.

would bribe high ranked German Officials. This site would help me understand what

events lead Oskar to join the Nazi and be in a perfect position to help the Jews.

Schindler, Oskar. Speech. Brunnlitz labor camp, 8 May 1945.

This primary source is a speech spoken by Oskar Schindler as a word of farewell to his

workers at the Brunnlitz labor camp, on May 8, 1945 the day of German surrender and

official end of the the Holocaust. In his speech, the war hero summarizes all the pain and

loss suffered by the Jews and bids them happiness in the future many thought "would

never come." The speech provides me a more personal view of the holocaust and can

help me understand what else might have motivated Schindler to rescue Jews from the

dire conditions of the holocaust.

A letter written collaboratively, by Oskar Schindler's former workers on the day of

departure. This primary source shows the Jew's perspective of Schindler and how they

wished him well for the rest of his life, as they ask for others to help Schindler in his
older years. It can help me understand how Schindler affected the lives of Jews and what

the Jews think of Oskar Schindler and his sacrifice.

This article explains how today, there are 8500 living descendants of Jews who were on

Schindler's "list of life." It also quotes a speech given by Rena Finder, and she explains

how her family was treated as nothing, serving as slaves in Ghettos, then being split from

her family. Then, when Oskar Schindler saved her, she speaks of how his treatment

toward jews started to make them[jews] feel human again. Then suddenly, she and her

mother were being transported to Auschwitz, but thankfully, Schindler had sent a

coworker with diamonds to bribe the Nazi officials into releasing them and others in the

cart.
