2
INTRODUCTION
• Greek technología (τεχνολογία) — téchnē (τέχνη), an 'art', 'skill' or 'craft'
and -logía (-λογία)
• “ The study of something, or the branch of knowledge of a discipline”
• Use of technology began with the conversion of natural resources into
simple tools

3
INTRODUCTION CONT…

Technology has fundamentally changed our lives over the past 10 years

• Social Computing
• Search Engines
• Cloud Computing & Virtualization
• Mobility
• Genetics
• “Consumerization” of IT
• Communication & Collaboration
• Telepresence
• Software Solutions

4
VISION 2020 CPU

• Moore’s Law “The number of transistors incorporated in a chip will

approximately double every 24 months.“ Gordon Moore, Intel Co-
Founder
• 20,000,000,000,000+ transistors by 2020

5
VISION 2020 CPU

Brainwaves as an input devices will

replace mouse, keyboard, sensors,
etc. implementations will be vast. Eg:
disabled people can move their wheel
chairs on their own.
Well renown manufacturers of the
Pentium processor, Intel is working on
this technology and envisions that it
be available for us in the year 2020.

6
VISION 2020 AUTOMOBILE

• The oldest 20% of cars are

responsible for 80% of the
emissions
• TAXI 2020 hopes to green
Australian streets fuel cells
and solar power

7
VISION 2020 AUTOMOBILE
• 2020 cars will have soft body, not shiny
metal box, size of go cart, zero emission
with removable parts, seats are adjustable
and even room for laptops and drive by
itself.

• Designer Stefan Mathys led a team of http://dvice.com/pics/City-Transport-Cell-concept.jpg

visionaries to design a similar type car.

The City Transport Cell, is built specifically
for the year 2020.

8
VISION 2020 DISPLAY SCREENS

• New social interactions: “In 2020, it may no longer be 'screens' with

which we interact. What I mean by 'screen time' in 2020 is time spent
thinking about and interacting with artificially-generated stimuli.
Human-to-human non-mediated interaction counts as 'facetime' even
if you do it with a telephone or video wall.” – Glen Ricart, Internet
Society board member, formerly of DARPA

9
VISION 2020 DISPLAY SCREENS
• 98% of Mobiles, TV’s and computer will have touch screens
• Touch screens become common interface for all machines and
devices.
• Toilet mirrors, keyboard, mouse will be replaced by touch screens.
• Stretchable, flexible , transparent, e-link displays

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

10
VISION 2020 DISPLAY SCREENS
• 3D holographic TV expect to be on 2020

• The Japanese Government is pushing huge financial and technical

weight into the development of three-dimensional, virtual-reality
television .

12
VISION 2020 THE INTERNET
A survey done by BBC found that in 2020

• Control over technology will still remain on human

• Virtual reality is a drain for some

• The internet opens worldwide access to success

• Low cost high speed internet will be commonly

available for people

• Their will be a culture of people called “refusenik”

who will remain unconnected to the internet due to
circumstances of economic and form violence and
protest against technology

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

13
VISION 2020 VIRTUAL REALITY
• “There is a strong likelihood that virtual reality will become less
virtual and more reality for many. However, I see this as an addiction
phenomenon that will likely inspire us to understand unexplored
dimensions of being human.” – Barry Chudakov, principal, The
Chudakov Company

The Dragon Battlefield Visualization System

15
VISION 2020 GAMING
• Games look similar to titles today but more realistic sound and graphics. Still
require a box, no optical disc or tray, still need storage cards most games will
be available to purchase online via the console.

• PlayStation 1:
Core CPU Speed: 33.8 MHz
Polygons per Second: 300,000
RAM: 2 MB
Storage: 649 MB (CD-ROMs)
• PlayStation 3: • 2020 Console:
Core CPU Speed: 3.2 GHz Core CPU Speed: 320 GHz
Polygons per Second: 275,000,000 Polygons per Second: 27.5 Billion
RAM: 512 MB Ram: 50 GB
Storage: 40 GB Storage: 4 Terabytes

16
VISION 2020 ROBOTICS

• The evolution of smart machines: “Fear of

enslavement by our creations is an old fear,
and a literary tritism. But I fear something
worse and much more likely – that
sometime after 2020 our machines will
become intelligent, evolve rapidly, and end
up treating us as pets. We can at least take
comfort that there is one worse fate –
becoming food – that mercifully is highly
unlikely.” – Paul Saffo, forecaster and
director of The Institute fort the Future

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

17
VISION 2020 ROBOTICS
• The Japanese Robot Association reports robots of all
kinds would be present in the home and office by the

year 2020.

• assist humans with everyday tasks and keep them

company.

• They’ll also be used for labor purposes such as space

missions and Japanese government have special plan to
achieve this goal.

• Cyborgs – Cybernetic organisms, machine and bio

particles, gives ability to modify human parts. Eg:
Cybernetic Limbs giving ability for cripled people to walk.

18
VISION 2020
• Future music player 2020

19
VISION 2020 WEAPONS
• Powerful Laser weapon replaces short range weapons like
RPG’s.

20
VISION 2020 LUXURY
• Luxurious Yacht that Transforms Into Airplane

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

21
VISION 2020 MOBILE PHONES

Morph is a concept demonstrating some of the possibilities

nanotechnologies might enable in the future communication devices.
The concept was designed by Nokia.

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

22
VISION 2020 MOBILE PHONES CONT…
• Morph demonstrates how future mobile devices might be stretchable and flexible,
allowing the user to transform their mobile device into radically different shapes. It
demonstrates the ultimate functionality that nanotechnology might be capable of
delivering: flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

• Advantage of morph is it can detect specific chemicals in the air

• As the nanoscale Electronics becomes invisible to the human eyes users can see buttons
on the device surface are in real 3d forms…

23
POSITIVE IMPACTS

• New technologies form a gateway for new inventions

• Human will have the opportunity to modify their body, e.g.: a person
with mental disorder can be cured using electrical implants. Also human
are playing with their genes, this makes it possible to eliminate
dangerous diseases like thalassemia before the child is born.
• Alternative energy sources.
• Processors become part of every object making it possible to automate.
Eg: juice mixers at home can be automated or connected to internet.
• Easy access to information anywhere anytime on the go.
• Less requirement for transportation, more can be done at home. Eg:
working at home via VPNs instead of attending office.

2010 ABDULLAH NISHAN

24
NEGATIVE IMPACTS

• People may get dispersed off to getaway from information overload.

• recruitment industry will be affected by the rapid, unstoppable march
of the new technologies.
• People will get lazy and completely dependent on technology. Human
interaction becomes less and virtual interaction becomes more.
• Increase cost for expansion of network mediums. More traffic on the
networks.
• Since more and more will be depending on the internet for their daily
needs, arises the possibility for increase in cyber crimes. And more
cost will go to cyber patrol.
