Messina meant to him.
The GH family lost a treasured member of the behind-the-scenes
crew when longtime makeup artist Donna Messina passed away
on December 7. Messina, who was the head of the soap’s make-
up and hair department, had been a part of the GH staff for 35
years, winning multiple Daytime Emmy Awards for her work.
“Donna joined the GH family on August 26, 1982. Anyone
who’s been to set knows the hair and makeup department is
synonymous with Donna,” said executive producer Frank Val-
entini. “To say her presence will be missed is an understate-

of course, Willow wants

the other, it’s so awkward,
and it makes her secret

actress suspects he can
still give Chase a run for
his money when it comes
to capturing Willow’s heart
for good. “It’s very possi-
ble,” MacMullen winks.

My best friend, my sister, Donna used to hate
taking pictures. I used to have to grab her and
hold her. And we would and laugh and laugh. I
will never forget this memory, and I will never
forget what you meant in my life.”

CBS Corporation has sold the iconic 25-acre CBS Television City property where B&B and THE
YOUNG & THE RESTLESS are taped. So what does that mean for the future

however, to not signing
another long-term con-
tract with the soap this
past summer. “It had al-
ways been my intention to
do the show full-time for
two years — just because
there’s so many different
things that I want to do

and accomplish,” Lanier
shared with the podcast
hosts. “And it is difficult
with the shooting sched-
ule that we have. I mean,
it’s nice because we have
a lot of days off, but it’s
hard to work around that
to go do a movie or recur
on another show. It was
kind of difficult to balance
it all.”
Whatever’s to come for
Nelle, Lanier’s willing to
play as long as she’s not
booked with other proj-
ects. Just don’t call her
character crazy! “I don’t
think Nelle’s a sociopath,”
the actress insisted. “I
think she’s a narcissist.
And she loves her child.
People might not think
that she does, but she def-
initely does! I never want
to play a character that’s
not complex like Nelle is,
and not broken — and
people are like that. It
might be a little height-
ened, but I know people
like her.
“Well,” she concluded
with a laugh, “they obvious-
ly aren’t switching babies!”

Couples don’t come much odder — or
more perfect for one another! — than
GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Anna and
Finn. “It’s certainly an eclectic pairing,”
chuckles the doc’s portrayer, Michael
Easton. “You always hope that oppo-
sites attract, and they are really differ-
ent in a lot of ways.”
But in truth, the actor — like Anna’s
pal, Felicia — recognizes their com-
monality as well. “What Felicia said a
while back really stuck with me,”
Easton sets up. “It was something to the
effect of, ‘You both save lives and care
about humanity but try to shut every-
body out. If you could find each other,
you could be good for each other.’
“I think that sums them up really
well,” he continues. “Amid all the differ-
ences, Finn became an addict to dis-
tance himself from people and from his
loneliness, self-loathing, pain and sad-
ness. I think Anna does a similar thing
with her work: Her addiction is her job.

While Henry immediately clicked with
her character, the procedural element of
Jordan’s job was a hurdle. “When you’re
rattling off a victim’s case and the num-
ber of bullet wounds, it’s challenging,”
she admits. But she found support in a
friend she’d made during her stint as a
model on THE YOUNG & THE REST-
LESS. That show’s former Chloe, “Lizzy

Then, after a few weeks of case-
work, GH took of f the training
wheels and thrust Henry into the
rest of Jordan’s world. “I went from work-
ing a few days a week to four or five days
a week, with 65 pages of dialogue,” she
recalls. “I was getting hit pretty hard! But
it’s amazing how quickly we’re able to
adapt. I feel like I’m getting into a
rhythm. I’m able to pick up dialogue
quicker and understand the storylines.
“We have some serious vets on the
show, and I’m like a sponge,” she adds.
“I just want to gain as much knowledge
and experience as I can from these
amazing actors!”
Surrounded By Good Guys
One of those amazing actors is on-
screen hubby Donnell Turner. “He’s
just so kind,” Henry raves. “One day, I
was having a rough day with dialogue,
and ever y time I messed up, Donnell
was like, ‘You got it. We’re good.’ He’s
very reassuring.”
Henry isn’t just grateful for her leading
man on screen, either. “Both on the show
and in real life,” she winks. “My boyfriend,
Kris Bowers, is in the industry. He’s a pia-
nist and a composer for TV and film, so

comfortable I felt being
intimate with Donnell on
camera. Once he knew I
was good, he was on
board, too.”

Grace Under Pressure
As we head into a new year, Henr y is
starting to feel at home in the role cre-
ated by Vinessa Antoine — and that
took some time! “Talk about pressure,
right?” she says. “Vinessa has a beauti-
ful element of being a mature, strong
woman, and I hoped I’d be able to bring
that same energy to the role. I was ner-
vous. These are big shoes to fill! But it
was inspiring more than anything else.”
Even as Henry dug in, she understood
it would take fans time to warm to her.

Shooting Curtis and Jordan’s nuptials, “Don-
nell and I were laughing about how nervous
we actually felt,” Henry chuckles. “It was sur-
real. I was never the little girl who imagined
my wedding. I’ve really only started think-
ing about marriage this past year or so. So it
was really cool to get this experience of be-
ing in the dress and having the bachelorette
party and all these fun things. And GH went
big and really decked out the whole place! It
looked gorgeous. I actually stole a flower ar-
rangement — they said I could! It was just
so much fun.”

GH “did a beautiful job,” says Henry.
“It’s hard to fall in love with a new per-
son in a role you’ve already fallen in love
with,” she concedes. “And the response
has been mixed. I’ve been getting a lot
of love, and Donnell has stood up for me
a couple times.
“But most of the criticism has been, if
anything, kind of funny,” she adds. “A
couple people have said, ‘She’s huge!
She’s so big next to everyone.’ I’m 5’7”.
They put me in heels. If that’s what you
guys are complaining about… I feel
pretty good about it!”

to holding a man hostage in
a cabin for weeks. Yet we
know that there is nothing
she would not do for her
children, as when she ad-
mitted (if only to herself)
that given the choice, she
would give up her own free-
dom in order for Britt to
stay out of jail. Are we
frustrated when Obrecht
manages to avoid any real
punishment for her
crimes? Of course. But
does a par t of us also
breathe a sigh of relief
that she’ll still be around
to cause trouble for the
residents of Port Charles?

Absolutely love her! Probably the worst thing
she did was trying to kill Peter — but think of all
the hysterical moments she has given us! She’s
got so much personality and sass. Who could

Krampus? Priceless! And she certainly loved
Nathan and Maxie, and sort of loves Britt.

chuckles. “Sometimes I’ve read things
about Arturo, and I go, ‘Man, how can
he have done this?’ But then I sit down

character.”
While Canela took his alter ego’s steamy
affair with the very-married Nikki and lat-
er relationship with her stepdaughter,
Abby, in stride, he confesses to having
been surprised when he learned that Ar-
turo’s estrangement from his brother was
caused by him sleeping with Rey’s wife,
Mia. “I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, how can I be

such a jerk to my brother? To my family?’
I think I said that when I was in the make-
up room, and someone said, ‘Oh, did you
think it was going to be all butterflies and

and really think about how Arturo could
have taken this route!”

While he’d love to get a peek at his alter
ego’s future, Canela says he has no
problem living in Arturo’s present, ei-

Q. Wasn’t GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Spencer also involved in the

messy situation surrounding the election of Mayor Lomax?
How did that play out?

A: Spencer was involved in that

storyline, and it may have in-
spired his recent actions. The young-
ster was not, however, responsible for
setting things in motion. The explana-
tion of how Lomax stole the election
was a bit convoluted, but it all started
with Lucy stealing a box of ballots in
order to help keep Duke from being
punished by the dirty mayor. Duke
then ordered Shawn and an undercov-
er Jordan to dispose of the ballot box
in the harbor… only to have Spencer
spot them. The precocious kid had his
driver fish the box out of the water and
brought to Wyndemere, where it was
recovered the next morning. Felicia
should have been named the winner,
but Sloane had swapped the ballots
with the help of Spencer’s dad, Nikolas,
who was scheming to take over ELQ.
The real ballots eventually were found
at Wyndemere, which is how Lomax
was removed from office!

Sonny’s son, making Dante his
brother and Lulu his sister-in-law.

of Bobbie, who is Carly’s birth
mom (although she was put up
for adoption and came to town as
Caroline Benson). As a result,
Carly is Luke’s niece, making

A. During her pregnancy, Lani had
been diagnosed with preeclamp-
sia, a condition that can prove dangerous
to the mother, in that it can cause blood-
clotting issues, impair kidney and liver
function, and induce seizures and
strokes. Unfortunately, it can also reduce
the blood flow to the placenta, often lead-
ing to prematurely born or small babies
and, as in Lani’s case, infant death.

Andrea Evans (Tina, ONE LIFE TO
LIVE) is making waves, both on
screen and off
A mazon’s THE BAY THE SERIES
has added yet another beloved soap
veteran to its roster: ONE LIFE TO
LIVE’s Tina, Andrea Evans. In the just-re-
leased season, she plays Mickey’s kid sis-
ter, Patty Walker, whom Evans explains,
“has taken over Patrick’s Roadhouse.”
While Mickey is a no-nonsense nurturer,
Patty’s someone that people should hesi-
tate to trust. “She hears all the gossip,” Ev-
ans explains. “As she’s going from table to
table, she picks up this and that.”
Remembering Tina’s Evolution
While it’s yet to be revealed what Patty will
do with all that information, Evans is pretty
sure that it won’t be anything good. “Typi-
cally, if I’m playing [someone], she’s prob-
ably not a very nice person,” the actress

admits with a laugh. “That seems to be my
thing, so I think we’ll see some surprises
from Patty!”
The OLTL alum was very proud of the
growth that Tina showed over the years,
especially when she turned over her in-
heritance to Todd during that last return to
Llanview. “She became a much fuller, more
interesting person, and her heart came
through in the end,” Evans recalls, “mak-
ing her much more grounded in that she
realized what’s important.”
A Cautionary Tale
What’s important to Tina’s portrayer is
helping the entertainment industry grow
in such a way that it becomes a better place
for women. To that end, she’s been work-
ing as an executive producer on a project

True Horror Stories

While many recognizable names con-
tributed, Evans confides that “the most
horrible stories are from those who are
people trying to get into the business.”
However, the jumping-off point for ev-
erything is a look back at the 1992 case in
which talent agent Wallace Kaye was ar-
rested for numerous sexual assaults. “I
spent six months researching and track-
ing down ever yone involved,” Evans
says, “and was present for each interview.
“Now we have distribution,” she adds,
“so we’re debating whether it’s going to
be a stand-alone documentar y or per-
haps a docuseries.”
The Next Generation
Evans had thought long and hard about al-
lowing her teenaged daughter, Kylie, to
join the project as a production assistant
before eventually deciding, “If she wants to
be in the entertainment industry, she has
to know how to protect herself. And the
only real way to know how to protect your-
self is to be aware of the problem.”

Last spring, viewers found themselves
wondering whether Justin might ulti-
mately be capable of betraying Bill when
he was short-listed as a potential culprit
in the “Who shot Bill?” storyline. Though
that turned out to be a red herring,
Spears says it did make him wonder
whether his alter ego could ever turn on
his tyrannical employer. “I’d like to think
he would never betray Bill, but greed can
years. It wouldn’t be personal — it would
just be business!”
As for whether we’ll ever get to see
more of Justin outside of the Spencer of-
fices, Spears says he’s certainly game for
anything. “I always say the most amazing
thing about Justin is that he has so many
directions he could go in,” says the actor.
Not only is Justin a billionaire’s right-
hand man, but he’s Donna’s ex-husband,
cousin to THE YOUNG & THE REST-
LESS’s Olivia and Drucilla, and the uncle
of Forrester intern Emma. “In that re-

the two teenagers seemed excited to let
loose, probably because it was their first
photo shoot together. But sometimes,
firsts can be difficult! Trying to take a few
dramatic shots, McCoy said, “It’s hard to
be serious with William. It’s too easy to

Bianca’s defining moment

t was on Christmas Eve 2000, that
ALL MY CHILDREN’s Bianca —
whom viewers had watched grow up
— said the words that neither she
nor her famous mother, Erica Kane,
would ever forget: “Do you love me,
Mom? Do you? I’m gay.”

The Real Deal

Bianca and Erica embarked on a long

journey that night, but the way it began
left an indelible impression. Eden Rie-
gel, who played Bianca, recalls the mo-
ments after shooting it as feeling “like
time had stopped. Susan [Lucci, Erica]
and I both had tears streaming from our
eyes and were totally wrung out.
“Sharing that,” she adds, “was a real
bonding moment in our relationship.”
A press event had been planned for the
night, and Erica had been eager to show
the world what a loving mother and
daughter looked like. She’d even ar-
ranged for her and Bianca to be dressed

in identical, glamorous gowns. Howev-
er, when it came time to leave, Bianca
removed her earrings, undid her hair
and stripped down to her slip. “I don’t
want the world to see me, Mom,” she’d
explained. “I want you to see me.”
To Tell The Truth
What followed was one of the most confus-
ing moments of Erica’s life. She couldn’t
stop worrying about her company’s im-
age, honoring her fans and the waiting re-
porters. Clearly, Bianca had other plans.
“Mother, look at me,” she begged. “I’m

dressed. But when Bianca wouldn’t
budge, Erica’s words came in a torrent.
She invalidated her daughter’s declara-
tion, instead blaming the rehab center
that Bianca had been in and surmising
that Sarah had preyed on her there. De-

many years, so the scenario seemed for-
eign. “I just didn’t understand what the
big deal about it was,” the actress admits.
But wanting to do the scenes justice,
she’d made it a point to get her sister’s
input. “I ended up learning a lot about
her and other people in my life — I
wanted to hear a lot of voices before por-
traying this moment.”
Reflecting on why Bianca is still missed
by fans, Riegel concludes, “She was brave,
courageous and loyal, and she fought for
the people that she cared about. She was
everything that I would like to be.”

true love on ABC’s THE BACHELOR

ans think they know what to ex-
pect from this 23rd season of
ABC’s THE BACHELOR (which
kicks off Monday, January 7, at 8 p.m.
EST). After all, most already know the
singleton in question, Colton Under-
wood, from the last seasons of THE
BACHELORETTE and BACHELOR

“He’s a really good guy… he’s thought-
ful, ver y smart and has a great, self-

far as being a very disciplined, head-
strong, proud man… There’s a reason
he was an NFL athlete.”
Translation? Underwood makes his
own rules and insists on playing by
them, resulting in what Harrison calls
“a raw, vulnerable and wild season.”

by Margaux and furious to see Sonny fall-
ing for her guilt trip, she sneered as Jason
defended her husband. Ultimately, howev-
er, she recognized how Sonny’s own grief
was playing into the situation. Shaking her
fist at her pal, Carly growled, “God, I hate
when you’re right!” And in spite of all the
emotion still brimming in her eyes, she
pulled herself together.
From Cool To Downright Cold
Carly and Sonny have a history of big, an-
gry showdowns, and when he came home,
she was essentially lying in wait. But even
as her eyes challenged him, she didn’t
rage. Instead, she pursed her lips, clasped
her hands (perhaps to control them and
herself!) and laid out why it was clear that
the D.A. had an agenda. And when Sonny
tried to deflect by blaming Diane for her
trip to Ferncliff, Carly only bowed her head
in disbelief. She didn’t hide her growing
frustration or sense of betrayal, but again,
she never raised her voice or shed a tear.
Then he asked what he should have done
when he found the D.A. shivering. “Let her
freeze,” Carly sniffed hatefully.
Still A Team
When Carly and Sonny later went to see
Mike, the tension hung between them.
Carly even acknowledged her anger…
along with her desire to ignore it and enjoy
the holiday. But when Mike didn’t recog-
nize Sonny, the Margaux situation was
quickly forgotten. Carly not only promised
Sonny they’d get through this together but
was even able to laugh with him and enjoy
a moment of joy over the happiness Mike
was finding in Yvonne. It was more evident
than ever that Sonny needed Carly… and
that she wanted to be there for him! With
Margaux creating a wedge between them,
however, Wright spun her character’s
growing conflict into gold.

With Kirsten Storms and Mi-
chelle Stafford clearly having a
blast, the scene at Crimson was
utter silliness. These ladies were
totally stuck on the men they
were trying to avoid.We knew it.
They knew it. In fact, they gave
each other grief over it!
Once Nina awkwardly re-
capped Sasha’s departure, she
tried to trick Maxie into copping
to hanging out with Peter. Max-
ie stuttered to cover… but then
saved herself by making her
own not-so-veiled dig at Nina
for moving back to Wyndemere.
Before things could get catty,
Nina shifted gears and deliv-
ered an epic pep talk about be-
ing strong, gorgeous females
— and Maxie’s exasperation
over their abject failure to stick
to their guns was so relatable!
Amid the goofiness, both wom-
en were clearly fighting tempta-
tion with all they had.
But even Nina couldn’t fight it
when she heard Peter’d stood
guard outside Maxie’s door!
And after they shared a laugh
over Maxie’s “two full sets and a
foot locker” worth of baggage,
Nina slid to her on a chair to sug-
gest that her little brother’s wid-
ow needed light in her life.
When she basically insisted she
make a go of it with Peter, Max-
ie’s gratitude was palpable.
The scene closed on a serious
beat — with Stafford tapping
into Nina’s ongoing conflict
over Valentin. In spite of her love
for him, she stood strong. How-
ever long that lasted, we were
just glad to have had some
quality time to hash things out
with the ladies.
