Introduction

The origin and root of any tribe is linked to its culture and tradition, therefore, its preservation is
imperative to protect one’s identity.
An architectural space is to be design where a special tribal folk dances can be performed called Moh-
mol. It will also be a space for the community to gather around and perform various cultural activities,
as well as serve to encourage and preserve native art & crafts.

Background
Moh-Mol is the major agriculture festival of Tangsa community of Changlang district, Arunachal Pradesh.
About Moh-mol
The Tangsa community of Arunachal Pradesh celebrated their annual agriculture-based festival
Moh-Mol with traditional fervor. Moh-Mol is one of the most important festivals of Arunachal
Pradesh. Moh-Mol marks the ending of the sowing season and the end of toil and labor in the
fields. It signifies the beginning of a new year, a time for merriment, and is celebrated with great
zeal and enthusiasm.
Prayers are offered to bring in a prosperous harvest season, wealth and longevity for the
community. It is also a time to remember the departed and pray for them. People
wear colorful traditional dresses and perform folk songs and dances at the festival. A traditional
musical instrument called “bong” is played during the celebrations. Its sound reverberates
through the mystic setting of the Tangsa villages. The indigenous Sapolo folk dance which is the
most popular folk dance form of the community is the main attraction of the festival. The folk
music played at the festival is soul stirring.
“It is a sport that you cannot play in a stadium,
It is a dance that you cannot perform in a theatre,
It is a drama that you cannot act on a stage,
But it is a worship for God’s blessing,
A homage to the ancient relatives for wisdom. “
Aims and Objectives
Aim is to create a proper address for celebrating moh-mol which is lacking in current scenario. A
structural mass that will house the entire social and cultural activities of the area. A place for the
community to represent their culture.
It will stand as a symbolic meaning for the culture that has been passed on to us by our great
grandfathers, and act as a root for every new generation to build their values on.

Architectural Challenges
Adopting architectural style that is familiar to the people and easily acceptable, but also stands unique
in its own. Use of traditional construction style so that people can connect to it and experience
congenial and intimate towards the spaces.
Adaptable towards the environment, use of appropriate materials and design that is inspired by local
believes and values.

Limitations
The design is conceptual and lack behavioral study and occupancy evaluation.
The design will also exclude structural design, MEP design as well as HVAC design.

Methodology
Design will adopt local building regulations and standards and wherever not mentioned, NBC 2016 will
be used as a standard for the design.
