Us: The Homo Selfishiens

“On March 19, 2018, the world’s last male Northern White Rhino, Sudan died due to “age-
related complications” leaving behind a daughter, Najin and a granddaughter, Fatu at the
Ol Pejeta conservancy in Kenya.”

This is how media had phrased it. Which is as far from the truth as Pluto is from the Sun. It
didn’t die due to any “age-related complications”, we killed it. Why can’t we face the truth?
Because it is hard? Bullocks! Hard is when you are the only male alive. Hard is when you see
the mother of your daughter die. Hard is when you can’t find a partner for your daughter and
granddaughter. Hard is when there is no one to extend your blood line. Hard is when you don’t
have your family. Hard is when you are no longer safe in your own home. And university
students tweet about how their life is so miserable. Let us all take a moment to laugh at that?
We cry when the least inconvenient thing happens to us, so imagine what Sudan may have
gone through for all of his life?

Our species made them vulnerable in their own territory.

Our species invaded their home.
Our species hunted them down.
Our species gained monetary value from their body parts.
Our species caged the last to save them from our own selfishness, like putting the pieces of a
broken mirror together with cello tape.
Our species drove them to extinction.
Today, we moan his death.
The irony!

The first step to make amends involves one accepting their mistakes. We chop off their heads
and attach it to our walls. What more could be expected from a species of war mongers. We
are behind every tragedy this planet has to face.

When will we humans wake up from this deep stupor of ignorance and cruelty? When the only
other species on this planet is us? Think about it.
Conservationists had put Sudan on the dating app Tinder, hoping to raise enough money for a
fertility treatment.
