Message From Hon. National President, A.B. Shukla
Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (R)
The Vedic Astrological knowledge was fading and the belief on astrology was unsteady decline. It
was seen as knowledge of few and was considered as having no scientific basis. Most of the Vedic
astrological literatures were available in Sanskrit. Dr. B.V. Raman and other astrological joined hands
together to impart the knowledged of this sacred astrological knowledge systematically. An organization
‘was thus formed in November 1984, called Indian Council of Astrological Sciences.
Further, the organization considered it necessary to moral and ethical values of society in order to
establish just social order. There is no better way of doing this than through the propagation of Vedic
Wisdom including knowledge of astrology. The council has been established as an All India Body to
ensure progress in astrological studies.
Vedic astrology has been accepted to have flown down from Vedas. Not only that, most of its
revelation from deep consciousness and meditation. Thus unfolding of divine knowledge immediately
after emerging out of unfathomable meditation is known as Shruti
Since itis heavenly knowledge gifted to the mankind from great Indian Seers, itis aptly named as,
Jyotisha. The key word here is Jyothi means light. Light is that which takes one away from the darkness,
which makes one see that is comprehension, Jyotisha is therefore considered as the Devine Knowledge
that makes one see the happening around not from eyes being seen by an ordinary man but from the rules
of Vedic Astrology.
Another important aspect of Jyotisha is that it is one of the six limbs of Vedanga. Vedangas are the
tools to decipher the complete knowledge of Veda. There are numerous examples available which
confirm that unless astrological meaning is applied to the Veda, the meaning is not complete. On example
I will quote is from Kathopanishad where Yama, the lord of death tells a knowledge seeker by name
Nachiketa that none else than Yama, himself can tell Nachiketa about the Brahma (the omnipotent,
omniscient, omnipresent one will have to die to understand HIM. Here the meaning becomes complete
when we add ascendant) will have to come to death (8th house in the horoscope) to know the LORD). So
the meaning becomes very interesting that if ascendant or ascendant lord is connected with 8th house or
8th lord, one gets the opportunity to understand the Brahma. This combination with benefic association
ensures that one will attain this knowledge in this birth itself.
Considering the importance of astrology, Indian Council of Astrological Sciences started
conducting classes systematically and in a very methodical way. ICAS started awarding Jyotish Pravina
and Jyotish Visharadaa Certificates on completion of a fixed(asraion Course of one year each, after conducting proper examinations. The examination cover basic theory
and analysis of horoscopes on various aspects of life.
Apart from regular subjects of Vedic astrology, class are also conducted for Palmistry, Vaastu, Naadi
etc. Over and above this, lot of emphasis is given on to study Gita, Veda and Upanishads. The basic aim is to
explore and decipher the basic astrological principal hidden in these scriptures, I am myself spear heading
this endeavor.
‘The demand for the course run dy ICAS is ever growing. considering huge workload of conducting
examination and awarding certificates, a body by name controller of examination was formed. Almost 1100
students appear every six months in exams conducted by this body. ICAS can now boast of around 300
faculty members who are renowned astrologers and are respectable people of society. They are high level
Government Officials, Doctors, Engineers etc.
ICAS also promotes research in astrology. Based on the research thesis submitted by the student
under the guidance of a nomination guide and an interview conducted, Jyotish, Bhushan is awarded. Apart
from research, ICAS is making efforts to decode and translate old scriptures.
One of the aims of ICAS is to start the activity of methodical teaching in other countries too. 1
begins with, E-chapter has been started. ICAS is also planning to establish centers in other counters (oo.
Till now, ICAS has been successful in its mission and able to fulfill the long cherished dream of
Dr.B.V. Raman. A stage has now come when ICAS will spread its foot print outside India
Let the true message of astrology leading the life to spirituality spread.
