GRADE&SECTION: Grade 8 – Compassion

Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and West
literature as an expression of philosophical and religious beliefs; information flow in
various text types; reality, fantasy, and opinion in listening and viewing materials; word
decoding strategies; and use of information sources, active/passive constructions,
direct/reported speech, perfect tenses, and logical connections in journalistic writing.

Performance Standards: The learner transfers learning by composing a variety of


journalistic texts, the contents of which may be used in composing and delivering a
memorized oral speech featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources,
grammatical signals for opinion making, persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate
prosodic features, stance, and behavior.

ACTIVITY
TASK 1: “4 PICTS 1 WORD WITH A TWIST”
The students will be divided into four (4) learning group by getting a candy inside
the box, the students that got Maxx candy will be group 1, FRES candy will be group 2,
Mentos candy will be group 3, and Dynamite candy will be group 4, each group will only
be given 2 minutes to guess the word being described by the set pictures. If they failed
to guess the word there will be a consequence, they will dance the switch up challenge.

ANALYSIS
The students will be asked with the following questions about the word being
described by the picture.

1. What is your idea about pride?


2. How do you think pride can ruin relationship between people?
3. How do you manage a prideful person?

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How can you make a person realize that being too prideful is
bad for them?

TASK 2: “GUESS ME”


The students will guess the meaning of the following words with the help of the
clue(s) given by the teacher.

1. Powerful

2. Climbed

3. Burrow

ABSTRACTION
TASK 2: “WATCH AND LISTEN!”
The students will watch an animated video of The Vanity of the Rat. After
watching the students will be able to answer the following questions.

“The Vanity of the Rat by Y.T. Yun”


1. Who are the characters in the story?
2. What is the story all about?
3. What is the tone used by the speaker?
4. What is the purpose of the author in this story?
5. Why do you think the mother and father rat thinks that none of the rats are good
enough for their daughter?
6. How are you going to deal with a classmate or a friend that is prideful?
7. What advice can you give to a classmate or friend that is prideful?
8. Do you think having pride is somehow good or it is bad?

APPLICATION
TASK 3: “ACT ME OUT”
The students will be divided into four (4) learning groups and they will be able to
perform the given task. Each group will only be given 10 minutes to accomplish the task
and 3 minutes to present their output. They will be graded through a guided rubric.

Group 1: Two groups of singers arguing in who are the much better singers.
Group 2: Group of students arguing who is the smartest among them.
Group 3: Group of models arguing who is the most handsome and most gorgeous
among them.
Group 4: Two group of students arguing on who has the better project output.
